Lady Dillos Powerlifting sends five to state meet, March 3rd

The San Saba High School girls varsity powerlifting team had a very strong outing in third place on Thursday, March 3, as the Lady Dillos had five great student-athletes compete at the 2022 regional meet held at Dublin High School. All five Lady Dillos who competed amongst a very large field of 330 lifters from across the state of Texas qualified for the upcoming girls' state meet that will be held on Wednesday, March 16, down in Corpus Christi.

In a highly competitive 97-pound division, San Saba’s own Makinzey Saldivar placed first as she lifted 560 total pounds with 215 on the squat, 135 pounds on the bench press, and 210 on the deadlift. Also qualifying for state by placing sixth in the 97-pound division was her teammate Natalie Cuevas, who lifted 470 total pounds with 185 on the squat, 85 on the bench press, and 200 on the deadlift.

In the 220-pound division, Austyn Graham placed third as she lifted 910 total pounds with 360 on the squat, 215 on the bench press, and 335 on the deadlift. Also coming in third place in a large 114-pound division was Leslie Aguirre as she lifted 660 total pounds with 255 on the squat, 120 on the bench press, and 285 on the deadlift.

Earning a medal in fifth place for the Lady Dillos in the 198-pound division was Carolina Cervantes as she lifted 800 total pounds with 340 on the squat, 160 on the bench press, and 300 on the deadlift.
