One of San Saba Garden Club’s (SSGC) ongoing civic beautification projects is maintaining the flowerbed along the Senior Center’s front entrance.

After several years of caring for established plants that had lately become unwieldy, SSGC decided it was time to give the bed a completely new look. Club members approved the project, and Jimma Byrd, chair of the Civic Beautification Committee, became the primary consultant.

Our local landscape garden and design center, Bloom ‘N’ Sprout, was contracted to plan a new bed, tear out the old one, condition the soil, and install ecofriendly plants on a bed of landscape rock and pebbles. New plants chosen were mountain laurel, Texas red yuccas, and new gold lantana. An existing crepe myrtle and a Texas persimmon were shaped to complement the additions. The result is a fresh, cool-looking xeriscape of colors and textures intended to please the senses of all who visit the Center and help Keep San Saba Beautiful.

SSGC wishes to extend special thanks to Jimma Byrd for the many hours she donated to this project. Sincere appreciation also goes to Stephanie Falkner, owner of Bloom ‘N’ Sprout, for creating a striking flowerbed that requires minimal natural resources and a modicum of maintenance.
