On the afternoon of May sixth, the San Saba Garden Club hosted a Spring Fling Tea for residents and staff of the local nursing home. What a privilege to provide a festive afternoon party for this special group after more than a year of strict Covid policies had kept San Saba Rehabilitation and Nursing’s doors closed to most visitors. Precautionary measures included proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test, temperature check, masking, social distancing, and disposable gloves for anyone handling food.

The Home’s spacious dining area was transformed into a welcoming tea room for gaily dressed ladies and gents. Twelve tables-for-four were covered with white cloths and decorated with fresh spring flower bouquets created by Marjean Alexander and Dianna Furlan. Plates and napkins with pastel floral designs complemented the spring theme.

An heirloom mint green tablecloth covered the buffet, which featured a floral centerpiece designed by Debbie Shahan, incoming Garden Club President for 2021-23. Staff served residents a potpourri of sweet and savory delicacies provided by Garden Club members.

Members present to host the event were Marjean Alexander, Rebecca Britton, Trish Fullerton, Dianna Furlan, Georgia Harris, Debbie Shahan, Karen Sloan, Nancy Van Etten, and Anne Vincent. Not present but also contributing were Janice Bates, Barbara Gorter, Rhonda Killion, Sandra McCrary, and Mona McMahan.

The Club extends a special thank you to the nursing home staff for making the event possible and to social activities director Amber Alcorn for working tirelessly to coordinate all aspects of the nursing home’s first “open house” since the pandemic began.
