Doing Something Great

Have you ever said you wanted to do something great for the Lord? Maybe you wanted to go to a foreign country and teach people the gospel of Christ, but since you did not have the training, the opportunity, or the funds, you were not able to do so.

When David was king, he wanted to build a temple for the Lord. (2 Samuel 7) David was known as the man after God’s own heart. However, God would not let him do so. He gathered the materials to build the temple, and later his son, Solomon, would have it built. I’m sure David was disappointed, but the Lord’s will must always be done.

I want to tell you that today you can do something great for the Lord. You don’t have to go to a foreign land to teach. You don’t have to build great monuments or great things for God.

In Matthew 25:37-40, Jesus describes a judgment scene. Jesus pronounces a blessing on those who gave to Him, "For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; 36 naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.' 37 "Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? 38 'And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39 When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' 40 "The King will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.'"

If you want to do something great for our God, help other people. Feed the hungry, give the thirsty something to drink, be kind to strangers, clothe those who need it, visit the sick, or visit those in prison. And when you do, it’s the same as if you were giving to Jesus Himself. And by the same token, when you do not do these things for others, you are withholding them from Jesus.

Today, someone you know needs a kind word. Someone needs words of encouragement. Someone needs help with a task that they cannot do for themselves. Why not do these things to others and at the same time realize you are doing it to Jesus.

Our world needs some positive reinforcement. You are the one who can do it. And as you go about doing good things, you are doing as Jesus did. Acts 10:38, "You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good…"

Go do something great for Jesus today!
