Message from Dr. Craig Whiting:
There is very good news for the availability of COVID vaccine for the Hill Country.  Baylor Scott & White (BS&W) Marble Falls has been certified as a “hub” to administer the vaccines currently available to fight COVID-19.  This means that facility should receive a regular allotment of vaccine every week.
BS&W is working to identify all people in our region who are eligible to receive the vaccine (that is they are in the 1a or 1b categories established by the state).  They will be ranking those individuals according to their risk of infection and potential for severe harm of infection and then contacting them to set up an appointment to receive the vaccine.
If you are already a patient with the BS&W system, then you are registered and enrolled in the system to be notified.  If you are not a BS&W patient, you can still be registered to receive the vaccine by creating a MyBSWHealth account.  You can create this account online at BSWHealth.com/covidvaccine or, if using a smart phone, by texting BETTER to 88408 to download the MyBSWHealth app.  If you do not have internet access, you can call the toll free number, 844-BSW-VACC (844-279-8222), to enroll.
The Department of Health has also informed us that the two vaccines currently available, Pfizer and Moderna, can be used interchangeably for the second dose.  That means that a person can get either vaccine for the first OR second dose. Further, the time between first and second dose can be extended up to six weeks.  These changes will help ensure that everyone who has received their first dose will have better opportunity to receive the second dose which boosts immunity significantly.
Even if vaccinated, please do continue to wear your mask in public, maintain social distancing and wash your hands frequently.  The vaccines greatly reduce your risk of having an infection but you can still spread COVID, so consider your neighbors and help protect them!
Reminder from Marsha Hardy:
