The San Saba Elementary Students and Staff collected almost 54,000 plastic bottles in just 8 school days for the 3rd Annual Bottle Collection Contest inspired by the KSSB (Keep San Saba Beautiful) Organization!
Last year, the school only collected 17,761 bottles in 2 weeks after collecting over 50,000 during the 1st year over a 6-week period.
The KSSB challenged our school with collecting plastic bottles and learning about recycling. Our goal was to collect more than last year's 17,761 over a 2-week period. The SSES Family tripled that amount! We beat our goal!
Dayler Barrier led his 4th grade team of 52 students by contributing over 13,000 bottles to his team, making the 4th grade come in 1st place with a total of 19,223 bottles collected!
They were closely followed by our 2nd place winner, the Kindergarten classes with only 36 students, collecting 15,640 bottles!
Third place went to 1st Grade with 7,570 bottles, 4th place went to 2nd Grade with 5,553 bottles, 5th place went to PK3/PK4 classes with 3,659 bottles, and 6th place went to 3rd Grade with 1,854 bottles. Way to go SSES!
Thank you KSSB for inviting us to the challenge! We look forward to beating our goal again next year!! Also, SSES encourages everyone to bring any bottles collected for the next couple of weeks to the San Saba County Courthouse at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, to contribute to the KSSB Community Clean-Up event that day! Thanks, KSSB for doing what you do!!!
