SCV Camp to meet in Lampasas County

The Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV), Saltworks Camp No. 2353 will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, June 3rd, at 3 p.m. at the Campbell Park Pavilion in Lampasas. A meal featuring BBQ brisket and red beans will be provided. Members and guests are requested to bring a covered side dish, such as salad, drinks, bread, or dessert. Following a brief business meeting, there will be a program on the life and times of Jefferson Davis, in recognition of his birthday on June 3rd.

The following weekend, members of the camp will attend the SCV Texas Division reunion in Mineral Wells, scheduled for June 6-9.

The camp has raised funds to cover the cost of the Texas historical marker 'KNIGHTS OF THE GOLDEN CIRCLE,' which is currently awaiting approval from the Texas Historical Commission in Austin. Additionally, funds will be allocated for purchasing gunpowder for another project: a full-scale cannon with limber. Seven camp members plan to attend artillery school this October in Ft. Concho near San Angelo.

Established in 1896, the SCV aims are to preserve the history and legacy of Confederate veterans. As the direct heir of the United Confederate Veterans, it is the oldest hereditary organization for male descendants of Confederate soldiers. Today, the SCV strives to ensure the history of the 1861-1865 period is preserved accurately. For more information, contact Camp Commander, Michael Oliver, at 1 (254) 432-0322.
