Representing San Saba Lodge No. 612, school board member Jacob Lackey presented US and Texas flags at the SSISD school board meeting on 11-10-2021. The American Flag was special as it had been flown over the US Capitol on June 6th (D-Day). Each year, the Scottish Rite Freemasons of the Valley of Austin obtain these flags for local lodges to present in anticipation of Veterans Day. The book markers were provided by the local American Legion Post No. 27, which were distributed to the students. Flags and Book Markers were also presented to Cherokee ISD by Jan K. Huffstetler and to Richland Springs ISD by Robert Milton Schreier.

The Freemasons of San Saba Lodge and the veterans of the American Legion Post also work together for the community by sponsoring a used flag drop box. The project, which was begun in 2014, is located between the local library and the police station. The public is encouraged to utilize the box to discard old and worn flags of any kind. Boy Scout Troop No. 55 is responsible for the collection and disposal of the flags.

Veterans Day was celebrated on Thursday, November 11th, by the students and staff of San Saba ISD. An early breakfast was provided to all veterans and their spouses in attendance by the Fel lowship of Christian Athletes and the Peer Assistance & Leadership students (PALS). After the meal, a student assembly was convened at Armadillo Arena.

The US & Texas colors were posted by Boy Scout Troop No. 55 under the direction of Joshua Ham. The guest speaker was Marine Staff Sergeant Scott T. Esker. Special music was presented by students of the 3rd and 4th grades. The program was closed out by an armed service flag presentation of the freshman (Gracen Shahan), sophomore (Jenna Lambert), junior (Delaney Ellis) and senior class (Florencio Esquivel) presidents, followed by the playing of taps by Everett Eidson.
