For September 2021, the San Saba Garden Club Honors 906 S. Bluffton. The yard is an oasis maintained by Sulema Cisneros. Sulema states that the cool early morning hours are best time for gardening.
Sulema's family moved to the neighborhood as a 12-year-old, when her parents brought their family from Rock Springs. When she married in 1969, she and her husband moved next door. There, they raised four sons and two daughters.
She has tended her yard for 52 years.
Trees include oaks which anchor the north corners of the lot, and a trio of mimosas shade sections of the lawn. Blooming coleus anchor the south front of house and surround the middle mimosa. Along the south side of the house are a number of beautiful esperanza. Along the fence line and on the porch are potted plants which give the entrance a tropical feel.
A bush of orange bells highlight the area near the mailbox and take the observers eye to the orange Japanese honeysuckle under the live oak. Filling in the space under the tree are impatiens, lantana and grasses.
Sulema's children help their mother as they prepare to lay a new front sidewalk for ease of reaching through the yard to the curb and mailbox, replacing the previous stone pathway.
