As part of its commitment to Keep San Saba Beautiful, the Garden Club held an annual Cleanup Day on March 3rd. Members formed groups to work on garden beautification projects in the students’ plot at SS Elementary School, the keyhole garden at San Saba Nursing Home, and flower beds at the historical Garden Club clubhouse in Mill Pond Park.
Hostesses Rhonda Killion, Mona McMahan, and Becky Moore provided workers with a delicious, nourishing lunch of jambalaya, ham and cheese sliders, birthday cake, ice cream, and brownies.
Participating in the day’s activities were club members Gail Bruner, Jimma Byrd, Terri Dickey, Trish Fullerton, Marjean Henderson, Rhonda Killion, Mona McMahan, Becky Moore, Leanne Pollock, Debbie Shahan, Nancy Van Etten, and Anne Vincent.
The Club sincerely thanks KSSB volunteers Kathleen Hawkins and Gale Ivy for their participation in Cleanup Day, and a special shout-out goes to Gifted/Talented supervisor Mrs. Kelley Cash and her students for their enthusiastic involvement in weeding, hoeing, and pruning at the elementary school garden.
Members attending the workday exemplified the Garden Club’s long-standing creed to actively promote “trees and grass instead of ash heaps and tin cans, flowers instead of weeds” and honored the club’s continuing pledge to help make San Saba a more beautiful place to live.
