San Saba Garden Club Meeting report

Beautiful spring weather, a beautiful setting at Fiesta Winery Vineyards, and beautiful company made for a memorable end of the club year meeting and delicious lunch for the San Saba Garden Club May 5th. The theme of Fiesta and Cinco de Mayo was carried out in décor and dress with festive foods provided by the winery and entertainment committee led by Sarah Lott. Co-President Marjean Alexander led the group in prayer and Co-President Cindy Sloan welcomed 16 members and guest of Debbie Shahan, Jamie Shelton. Everyone enjoyed visiting in the mesmerizing and scenic outdoor setting.

In the business meeting, past projects and programs were discussed and plans for the next term were mentioned. Weeding and planting at the San Saba Rehab pollinator keyhole garden flower bed had happened the past month during all the wonderful rain and photos were shared with membership. Thirty-five award certificates from Texas District V Garden Club were presented by Youth Committee members Jan Vanderburg and Debbie Shahan to San Saba Elementary School students for their nature projects in poetry, sculpture, and art.

We’ve had a prosperous year considering the chaos and uncertainty of our beloved meeting place that flooded in the July floods. With great excitement it was announced that we’ve reached our fundraising goal to renovate the historic mill house. Yes, we have even surprised ourselves! A local contractor will begin work soon inside the structure. The City of San Saba is doing the outside needed renovation under the direction of the Texas Historical Commission’s directives to city manager, Scott Edmonson. With grateful hearts, we, the San Saba Garden Club, thank our community people and groups and all others from distant places who have contributed to our rebuilding project! Hopefully in the fall everyone can see what has been done and we can enjoy our treasured meeting and entertaining place again!
