Rotary President Marcus Wood opened the meeting last Thursday at Pepperbelly's.
Those in attendance: Rayla Allison, Jerry Blankenship, Jacqueline Carlson, Buck Gilcrease, Pat Johnson, Beth and Tom Griess, Jake Lackey, Sheila Meador, Keith Owen, Marcus Wood, Katherine Robertson, Marvin Whitt. Guest: Celia Bell.
Jerry Blankenship and Celia Bell spoke about the upcoming 8th Annual Night at the Museum, Saturday March 1, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. The Night at The Museum is the museum's annual fundraiser and celebrates Texas Independence with live demonstrations, speakers, campfire cooking, and more.
They presented a brief overview of the Museum’s History which resulted from a 1961 State Historical Survey to Promote County Museums. Local citizens surveyed the County for artifacts, and the first item donated in 1963 was the old San Saba school bell. In 1965, the Kuykendall family donated their 1860s log cabin. These two items inspired the citizens to construct our own museum in 1970. Since its inception, the museum displays have expanded, and just nine years ago, the museum held its first The Night at the Museum.
This year’s event speakers include: Mr. Ross Cox who will speak on the subject of The Texas Rangers and the San Saba Mob and the life of Edgar T. Neal. Mr. Jefferson Stencil will speak on the life of San Saba native Officer Heywood Lane Edwards.
