Buck Gilcrease presided over the meeting at Pepperbelly’s Restaurant last Thursday. In attendance were: Jerry Blankenship, Jacqueline Carlson, Buck Gilcrease, Tom Griess, Pat Johnson, Shelia Meador, Aleck Newby, Cydney Pearce, Randy Robinson, and Marcus Wood.
The guest speakers were Joel Valdez from Cherokee High School along with Austyn Graham and Winton Lackey, both from San Saba High School. They described their experiences at the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Conference (RYLA) held last January.
Austyn served as a Team Leader. All of the students emphasized what a positive experience RYLA was. This conference focused on team building and developing individual leadership skills. The program was filled with fun but was also challenging as each participant had to get outside of their comfort zone. The weekend was packed with students from different cities throughout Central Texas.
New Business:
Buck then presented next year’s officer slate to the club. Marcus Wood will serve as President. President Elect is Jake Lackey. Kevin Shahan will be Treasurer. Beth Griess will serve as Secretary. Tom Griess and Lynn McHenry will co-serve as Foundation Chairs.
San Saba Rotary will donate $500 to the City for the Fourth of July Fireworks.
Our next meeting is June 6th. Our speakers will be County Judge Jody Fauley updating us on County Affairs.
