The River City Band has recently acquired a new home for rehearsal by a new sponsor and will change time and date beginning the 2nd Tuesday in November.
The Commercial National Bank of San Saba has agreed to be a sponsor for the band and has provided free rehearsal space in their community room. The bank has also provided the printing of the band’s name on either side of its new storage trailer. The trailer was purchased to provide storage for music stands, drum equipment, and other large instruments. It can be taken to any site the band chooses to play such as the “Sip and Stroll” celebration before the lighted Christmas parade each year.
The band will have their last rehearsal at 401 West Dry St.
this coming Tuesday, October 21st, and celebrate “Fall,” “Halloween,” and cooler weather with a hotdog party after rehearsal on that date. The rehearsal will begin at 6:00 p.m., and the party will begin at 7 p.m.
The band is still looking for new members to augment the dedicated group that we presently have. However, we are, as mentioned in our previous article, in need of another percussionist and tuba player.
We can also provide instruments (for free) for anyone that wishes to make a commitment and support our community by joining our group. We presently have several Flutes, B-flat Clarinets, a Bass Clarinet, a Trumpet, 2 French Horns, 2 Baritones, 4 Trombones, and a large collection of percussion instruments including Snare Drum, a Drum set (for a more advanced Percussionist), a Xylophone, and several other auxiliary percussion instruments.
If you make the commitment, you need not worry about what you have forgotten, because we have three retired Band Directors within our membership. They will be glad to help you overcome any weaknesses you think you have and give you the confidence to play in our group.
Remember, the music we play is not difficult because we have special arrangements that are written especially for people who have not played an instrument in several years. You will be able to perform and enjoy once again the joy of fellowship and making music.
