The Richland Springs Report

Although there was a little confusion with the change of venue for the Fourth of July Celebration, things went well. Congratulations to our Grand Marshal, Valerie Barker. Over the next few weeks, the Howler’s Club will post photos of the winners of the events. I saw the video of the Brittany and Madalyn Ransbarger; the girls caught their pig in 16 seconds. It was a work of art and precision. Way to go, girls. Their brother, Troy, came out on the wrong end of the pig fight. It will take a few days for that face to heal. All three triplets attend Texas A&M. That pig sacking event is a highlight of the festivities. The meal line was a little chaotic, but I suspect there will be more organization for the meal line next year. It went well once it started moving. The baking events were held in the fellowship hall of the First Baptist Church, and familiar names appeared in the winners column.

I went online to check school scores for the STAAR tests. According to their notice, reading was up statewide, but math and science scores would not be out until the end of July. Can someone please tell me why it takes so long to complete that job? Most grading is done by the computer. When I went to college, your scores were posted before the end of the day. I acknowledge the task is bigger, but tests were completed in April. We need more efficiency in this process. Better yet, we need a better system.

I’m heading for Canada on Tuesday. Russ will hold down the fort. I’m taking fancy new lures to tempt the biggest and toughest fish out on the lake. I can’t wait. My great niece, Ashley, will hold her wedding at the lake house, so it is going to be a wonderful visit. My brother cannot travel much, so I will have to visit him at my sister Bev’s house in Vankleek Hill. I’ll also connect with my cousin Barb. She will leave on a world cruise in October. What an adventure!

Don’t forget two very important dates: July 15th, volunteers will be needed to off-load provisions for the 18th. Parents, if our child needs new shoes, backpack, hoodies or other school needs, that is the day for you to put on your calendar. If you can’t go, you will need to either contact one of the local churches or Debbie Phelan to arrange transportation. The 18th is Saturday. We have an update on school supplies. The Howler’s Club and First Baptist Church have donated supplies to the school, so school supplies will still be free for students. Please put a red star on your calendars if you want to participate.

What a wonderful Independence Day we have had around the country. FIFA has helped manyAmericans renew their love for America. Those who were already proud, just grew a little prouder. We have an amazing country, and none can compare. Enjoy it, love it, and appreciate it. So many other countries do not have the blessings that we have. God has blessed America.

Please pray for America, her government, and her diverse people. Let them learn to love and contribute to this country. Pray for peace around the world, and most of all pray for our precious troops and their families. Happy Independence Day.
