The Richland Springs Report

Like many things in life, raised gardening is a learning experience.

There are bound to be errors and successes. I wish we could fix life errors as easily as gardening errors. If something turns bad, you pull it up and start over. It does help with errors if you slow down and think about what you are doing. It’s amazing how clearly you think when you are sitting on the front porch meditating on life in general, and my part in the grand scheme of things. I just hope I’m missed a little by the people I’ve spent time with.

If you attended the funeral for Jo Lei Henniger, you were astounded but pleased at the tremendous outpouring of love shown to the Miller family. There were between 250 and 300 people. Johnie Reeves and Brother Slaymaker held the services. The love this community has for the Miller family was displayed in the attendance and the food gifts for the family. On behalf of the families represented, thank you for your kindness.

Wednesday Kid’s Church will not meet for the month of May. There are plans for VBS and other day events for June, July, and August.

Dear me, we will be back in school before we know it! In the meantime, teachers are pushing to complete courses, regional events are mostly completed, and some lucky students are headed to state meets. Ryleigh Bryant and Rylie Eckert will represent Richland Springs at state in long jump and the 800 meter respectively. Good luck to both ladies.

For all the sewers and quilters out there, the Serenity Quilting Store, relocated on the courthouse square, has announced that material is 20% off on Thursdays to ladies and gents over 55. The also anticipate their new quilting retreat house above the store should be opening late summer. I went over to get some matching fabric to finish a quilt and came out with more material for a new quilt. My excuse was valid; the material was on sale for six dollars. Now I have more work to do.

Don’t forget we have local vendors to support. I love running over to Skelton’s to pick up daily items. It saves me a long drive to Brownwood or San Saba. I was able to buy some blades for Russ’s metal cutter. He had quite a supply. We have the Coyote Store, Hair It Is, Feedlot, McKinnerney Real Estate, BoHo Unique, and Chrissy’s Plants and Things will open in a few weeks. I would say Mann Glass, but that business is up for sale. By now everyone should know, Rennie Mann has thrown his hat into the senate race against John Cornyn. He realizes he is lacking name recognition outside of San Saba County, but his motives are honest and upright. He is one of our local businessmen and manages his own land.

We have many on the prayer list that are struggling, but we have good news from Jeremy Young and Vicki Moreno. They are doing much better, and our prayers are for complete healing for both. Our country and the upcoming elections in 2024 need lots of prayer. Rain amounts varied around the county; Ricky Allen had about 1.7 inches, but mostly hail.

We live a mile or so down the road from him, and our total was .5 with some small hail. Please, Lord, send us a good tank-filling rain. Pray for our officers and first responders, but most of all pray for our precious troops and their families. Have a great week.
