The Richland Springs Report

We’ve been teased by weather reports of possible rain, but other than a light mist, I’ve seen nothing around here. It’s praying time if winter crops are going to prosper. I hate to be fussy, but I don’t want any of that white stuff that the northern area of this country is getting. I’ve given plain instructions to my sisters to keep that stuff in their area. Cold is good even if I don’t like it. Cold kills bugs, so if we have no cold, we will have an abundance of unwanted critters. I will have to get my daughter Crissy to come and use her organic bug killers around my house.

A strange thing happened yesterday. Russ and I came home from a delightful lunch date with my son’s family. All three kids were able to come this time. As we drove up to the house, two cats popped out from underneath the parked car. I immediately presumed that Laura and Kristie had brought the two cats they were going to bring to me. Laura had told me she was bringing an orange striped cat and a smaller black and white cat. There they were, skittish and not friendly, but they were there. Since it didn’t make sense for them to just drop off the cats, I called to see what they had to say. Kristy said no, she and Laura had talked over which ones they were going to rehome but hadn’t brought them out yet. The cats here fit the exact description of the two cats that she and Laura were bringing. I presume Siri heard and sent me some of her own, rather creepy.

Kid’s church will be back in full swing this Wednesday. Shiloh will continue to have youth night as well. Ladies quilting has started a new project, and this Thursday, a group of ladies will head to Stonewall for a quilting retreat. There should be a place open for the event. I won’t be able to go. I strongly encourage anyone who wants kind, loving, laughter-filled fellowship to go with these ladies.

The administration and school board members will be hosting a public meeting at 5:00 p.m. before the actual 6:00 p.m. meeting next Thursday, January 27th. Citizens are invited to attend and present their questions regarding the recent financial issues and steps that have been taken to solve the problems. Please be respectful of everyone’s time and opinion.

First Baptist Church will begin a pastor search to replace Bro. Mack Elkin. Bro Mack has been called to another church. We wish him all the best as he moves to his new church home. He and his family will be an asset to their new parish.

On January 20, there will be a high school game against Zephyr at Zephyr. Junior high boys will play on the 22nd against Mullin at Mullin. Junior high boys will play on the 26th at home against Priddy. Track forms have been sent out to group reps via GroupMe.

Congratulations to the 5/6th grade youth basketball team for their second-place finish after three intense games lasting five hours. Way to go Coyotes.

Don’t forget the community potluck luncheon on the 25th. Bring your favorite dish, swaps food and news as we share a meal together. All proceeds go toward the renovation of the Old Bank Building. The Preservation Society has some stone etched coaster and pens for sale as well. The Beautification Committee would like to give a huge shout out to the First Christian Church for their donation towards the spray foam insulation of the new restrooms. We have a wonderful community.

Please remember, thanks to the donations of the students from the school and several other large donations, the food bank at the Baptist Church is every first and third Monday. If you need food urgently, a special run can be made.

Please pray for peace around the world, peace in our country, an ability for our congress to work together and for our beleaguered ICE agents. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. God bless America.
