The Richland Springs Report

My first fire of the year is burning brightly. Woodstoves are wonderful, but they make a mess. I will clean the mess and wipe whatever needs wiping and smile when I catch a whiff of my woodsmoke in the air. You might ask why, and I would tell you that when I walked through the door this evening a wave of warm air enveloped me and warmed my bones. There’s also the issue of firewood to be brought into the house which I will not discuss.

I inherited my daughters Whataburger smoothie hoodie. It comes to my knees and wraps around at least once, but it is warm. It takes a certain strange personality to wear this crazy outlandish orange hoodie, but apparently it fits my personality. I can’t wait for a dress up day at school to show everyone my big orange hoodie.

The Men’s Prayer Breakfast on Saturday was held in the fellowship hall at the First Baptist Church due to the cold front that made it a little cool. If you did not make it, please be sure and put the second Saturday of the month on your calendar. Everyone is welcome.

JV will play Cherokee at home on the 13th. The January 15th junior high basketball game with Priddy has been cancelled. We have a junior varsity boys basketball game at Brookesmith on the 16th pending agreement by Brookesmith. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. The Kids’ Church at First Baptist will resume this Wednesday immediately after school. Older students will attend Shiloh at 6:00 p.m. The Ladies Quilting and Bible Study group will resume meetings on Tuesday the 13th. Don’t forget the Sunday luncheon at the Community Center on the 25th.

Many of you have heard of the issues plaguing the school. Although it is concerning, difficult steps are being taken to keep our school solvent. The school board, in conjunction with Mr. Friar and Mr. Roesler, are cutting wherever possible. It’s a demanding situation for everyone concerned, but we will get back on track. Coyotes fight…never die. Just be in prayer for us as tough decisions must be made.

Please pray for the families of Bob Manigold, Roseanne Smith, and Walter Hicks. We have a long prayer list of local community members who need prayers. Walter and Arlene Stratton, Fred Overstreet and several others are struggling with cold issues. Allergies are on the rise. There are many flu cases, and chilly weather brings arthritis issues.

On the national scene, we need prayer for our government, the riots in Minnesota, the unrest in multiple cities; and our government needs to learn to cooperate with one another so that “we the people” can live in the “pursuit of happiness.” Pray for peace on earth and a good rain for our area. I don’t know if any of you saw Tana Lusty’s record keeping on the rain in our area over the last year, but it was not promising for water tables. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. Have a blessed week.
