The Richland Springs Report

Another week of good weather, but no rain. Things are desperate for the farmers and ranchers, especially those who sprigged their pastures with coastal.

Although the winds were a little high, the Richland Springs Trade Day was a success. I have never seen so many people at the Feedlot. So many interesting booths guaranteed to tickle someone’s fancy.

My daughter Chrissy had specially designed Old Bank Building t-shirts for sale along with bits and pieces. If you see Jason Lewis, be sure to give him a high-five for a magnificent job.

There were so many choices. Jody and Kim Lewis had unique cactus succulents for sale next to Chrissy’s booth. Someone was selling off their extra ammunition. It was a well-visited booth. I brought home an old calf feeding bucket and a beat-up tin gas can. Not useful, but cute.

Russ and I celebrated our 51st wedding anniversary on Saturday. I wish I could pass out helpful hints on marriage, but the truth of the matter is marriage must be worked just like a garden. Sometimes you get difficult weeds that need to be removed. Marriage must be an 'us,' not 'I' garden, but be prepared for a little give and take. Respect is a must, and encouragement and praise keep the hard times down to a minimum.

Russ and I have been blessed; our garden has been worked for 51 years and has borne much fruit.

Marilyn Suber proudly announced her grandson Jaxon Tucker proposed to his sweetheart Sarah Wesson last week. He had a grand treasure hunt event planned, but that fell through. He still managed to get the proposal done but in a much less spectacular way. Congratulations to this young couple.

The kids will be busy this week with STAAR testing. We have two Wednesdays left for Wednesday Kids’ Church. The last will be the annual pizza day. Over 20 of our kids have memorized the Lord’s Prayer. The remaining students have two weeks to say it for one of the adults. We’re very proud of these kiddos.

Please mark your calendars for VBS July 17-20. Lots of fun stuff to do right before school. On the last day of VBS, we will hand out backpacks for all who need one.

To close out April, we will have 14 students heading to Academic UIL Regionals for gold regionals at Mount Pleasant on Monday and Tuesday.

School events for May are packed tightly. The Masonic dinner for seniors and retiring teachers is May 1st. There’s goat roping for the senior class on May 7th. The state track meet is May 11-13. The Alumni Banquet is on May 13th (all past students and teachers are welcome to attend). The 8th grade banquet will be held May 16th at the First Baptist Church. The Senior luncheon will be May 18th. The Promenade will be held on May 20th in San Saba. I will post the dates for the Baccalaureate next week.

I wanted to mention another star student who used to attend Richland ISD. Hailee Mack placed 5th in the long jump, 3rd in the 100m dash, 3rd in the 200m dash, and 2nd in the mile relay. She is heading to area competition. Congratulations, Hailee.

Jeremy Young was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. He is doing better but is not yet stable enough to have the operation on his colon to remove his cancer. Our prayers go out to the Johnson family for their loss. Kathy Brockman is still trying to recover from her bout with Covid and needs our prayers.

The prayer list is long, the needs are great, but our God is greater!

Please pray for rain, for our country, our government, and our mixed-up troubled world. We need serious prayer time for the media groups that are training our kids to ignore truth and morals, to disrespect all authority, and embrace socialism instead of democracy.

It’s time to turn our precious country around. I was privileged to listen to a gentleman running for a government position. It was well stated and when he announces, he will get my vote and assistance.

God, be with our country, our law officers, and most of all our precious troops and their families. Have a great week.
