Congratulations to all our amazing graduates. The class of 2025 celebrated their achievements in the newly opened Mann Event Center. This is a perfect venue for many events, but especially beautiful for this graduation. Tables lined the walls with the memorabilia of each graduate. Two hundred chairs occupied the center of the room. Many in the crowd had to stand due to the size of the crowd that came to celebrate. No one fussed. A genuinely nice gentleman offered me his chair. Thank you, sir, I appreciate your courtesy. Thank you, Mr. Kirby, Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Farris, and Mrs. Eckert, for the excellent evening. Highlight of the evening is always the grant presentations. Our generous community gifted most of our graduates with monetary gifts that will assist them on their college journey.
I received a note from Jaki Hargrove on Saturday. Please offer your congratulations to Douglas and Wanda Gibson when next you see them. They celebrated 50 years of marriage on Saturday. It's a marvelous accomplishment and this is a special couple. When Chrissy and I were painting the ceiling of the old bank building, he came over with a huge scaffolding rig so that we could paint more safely. Congratulations, Douglas and Wanda.
We have a new business in town. Kathy Davie has opened Mimi's Quilts. She has a tidy little quilt shop next to her house. I have used her talents multiple times. If you have one of grandma's old quilt tops and want it quilted, Kathy is the lady for you. She can be reached at 325-248-1871. We hope her new business prospers.
I'm glad school is out. The last few weeks have been fraught with drama. Everyone is working to make our school better, but there seems to be a lack of communication and clarity as to what the end goals are. A house divided against itself falls, so we need to start communicating and sharing goals. It could be that everyone is on the same path. The end of school is always a little hectic. Perhaps we can get together and share ideas. Remember… Coyotes fight… never die.
The quilting ladies had a sewing day last Monday. These are usually good sharing days as well as show and tell times. The Stonewall Retreat will happen while I am in Greece. That makes me sad.
I can't tell you how refreshing those quilting retreats are. The weekly meetings will resume in late August.
I feel a bit greedy, but we sure could use another big rain around here. We had enough rain to help the trees a little, probably didn't hurt the grasslands, but we didn't get enough to settle deep into the ground. I have two weather apps. One app shows no rain, and the other shows a large rain pattern. I hope the rain one is correct.
We have many prayer requests. Please pray for the Travis Shaw family and the Willie Ray Harvell family. Micki Allen is in the rehab center after her recent fall. H.B. Adams is also in the nursing home recovering from his recent illness. If you're in Brownwood, I'm sure Ginger Skelton would love to see you. In fact, we have local folks in the San Saba Rehab Center that would love to see a new face.
I wish all our graduates a bright and successful future. I pray our students will have a wonderful summer vacation and come back refreshed. Lord, please restore order to our country and protect our President. Most of all, please keep our precious troops and their families safe. Have a blessed week everyone. I'm off to Greece.
