The cold is coming back. I’ve covered up my baby plants even though it won’t be down in the teens. I have asparagus shoots that are calling to me, but this is only their second year, so the experts say wait another year to harvest. I will listen to them, but maybe a few spears will have to be sacrificed to my dinner.
Paige Moats advised me to cut down my Esperanza to the ground on February the 14th. Imagine scalping a bush on Valentine’s Day. She is the expert, so I will chop the bush away. I have snow peas that are just popping their little heads up out of the ground. The potatoes are in the ground, but I need to get my onions planted. I’m a terrible gardener, but I’m persistent. I keep trying to improve even in the face of failure.
The varsity basketball girls are moving on after their win last week. Softball season begins shortly, and the girls will transfer to that sport, hopefully, after a deep run into finals. The boys won their game against Brookesmith and will be moving on as well.
I noticed Chrissy’s Plants has her new spring plants on Facebook. Bobby Baker, the other half of Chrissy's Plants, cut down the dead Pecan limbs that overhung the road. Unfortunately, the tree paid him back by knocking him off his ladder. He didn’t break any bones, but he bruised a few body parts that will ache for some time.
RS BoHo Unique has some nice Valentine’s gifts for all you last minute shoppers. I have not checked out the new Coyote Taco place that opened in town. I’ll let you know more about it next week. The Shoppe 1910 has spring items in their window. Their sales are mostly online or by appointment. An arrangement is being made between Jackie and Chrissy to have Jackie keep the Shoppe open from her side of the building.
There will be a birthday party for Vera Ralston this coming Saturday at the First Baptist Church. All friends and family of Vera are welcome to come celebrate with her. The brunch will begin at 10:00 a.m. If there are too many people, we can move to the Community Center.
Sunday lunch will be provided by the RSPS members. All dishes can be dropped off after nine in the morning, and the meal will be served around noon. Thank you for your support of the Preservation Society. All meals are by donation only. Please come and eat with us Sunday after church. The roof repair will be beginning this week. That’s a source of great excitement.
The Men’s Prayer breakfast in the Tabernacle was attended by 38 men and their sons. The attendance continues to grow which is pleasing to the men involved. Please remember this is a community affair with all men and their sons welcome to participate.
The teachers had a professional development day on Monday. Breakfast was provided by Mrs. Baker and her staff. This development day was designed to introduce our new principal, Amy Wilson, to all the teachers. Although we have seen her coming and going around the school, Monday was a time to share her vision for our future. We wish her all the best in her endeavors.
We have several members of the community recuperating at the Rehab Center in San Saba. Please keep our seniors in your prayers. There will be two seats open on the school board. Please consider serving your community and school by volunteering to serve.
Please pray for our country our President and new Congress members, and for a good dose of rain in our area. We need to pray for our tectonic plates. There seems to be some serious activity along most of our tectonic plates. Some areas are already under evacuation orders and several more are in danger.
Have a happy Valentine’s Day. Don’t forget to tell your special person how wonderful they are.
