The Richland Springs Report

I love the Christmas season. I like to give gifts and see happy faces. When I had children in the house, Christmas was a delight to me. Now that everyone is gone, I buy gifts for children in need. I hope all the children on the angel tree in the bank building were picked up. This has been a financially low year. Inflation has hit many budgets, but it is blessed to give to those who might have a little less.

The first fundraising lunch for the Preservation Society was an overwhelming success. Every table was full, and the food was varied and delicious. See more photos and info here:  RSPS Potluck a success!

Thank you to all the people who prepared a dish for the event. I chose a delicious green chicken that was mouthwatering, it had chunks of avocado with a taste of lime. I taste tested several other dishes. I didn't forget to sample the desserts. There will be another meal in February. I hope everyone comes again.

The school kids are doing bench marks this week and next. Those tests are annoying to the kids, but they give the teachers and administration an opportunity to examine weak areas. Basket-ball season is in full swing for both junior high and high school. Please check the calendar for the schedule. We have a few weeks until the Christmas break, also known as the winter break.

The Christmas market was an overwhelming success. I wish we had that many people in town on a regular basis. The market is closely followed by the Christian Church’s Spirit of Christmas song service. It would be nice if more people attended. It’s not a high-brow event. It’s a local talent, homey gathering of community, emphasizing the wonder of Christmas. It just gets you in the mood for Christmas. It’s the calm before the storm.

Someone was wondering if cedar fever had come early this year. I’m not sure, but I can guarantee that whatever is in the air, I have it. For the last three weeks, I’ve struggled with congestion and a miserable breathtaking cough for weeks. Two trips to the doctor’s office, two rounds of antibiotics and shots have not cured the problem. I’m not infectious; I’m just miserable. At least I’m not alone in my misery. Everywhere I turn, there are people suffering with me. I guess it’s time to turn to the “old” remedies.

I hope and pray that we will get the Hamas hostages back before January, but I’m not feeling positive. We need to pray for the incoming government. Our world is in a mess, and we need a strong leader to bring the outlaws under control. Please pray for our border agents, for President Biden as he retires from his duties, and for civility and cooperation between our two parties. We need unity for our country. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. Have a blessed week.
