The Richland Springs Report

School is in its “honeymoon” phase. I say that because the kids are glad to see their friends and get busy doing things together. It doesn’t last long, but it’s nice while it lasts. The day-to-day grind will begin soon enough. It is the fun time of the school year.

School activities have started. Meet the Coyotes and their first scrimmage will be this coming Friday at 5:00 p.m. Varsity boys will scrimmage Medina and Calvert. There will be a hamburger meal for $8.00 available at the concession stand. Come and join our athletes for their first meet. Varsity volleyball girls will be competing at the Strawn tournament Thursday through Saturday.

Next Sunday, at 7:00 p.m., parents and community members will meet at the school for our annual school prayer event. Let’s stand with our school and our students for a healthy, positive, and productive school year. Anyone interested please meet at the front of the school by 7:00 p.m.

If you missed the Men’s Prayer Breakfast last Saturday, please put it on your calendar for next month. It’s the second Saturday of the month. All area men and their sons are welcome to attend. A hearty breakfast is served, and a timely message is delivered by various members of the area. This past Saturday there were 25 men who came to the Tabernacle. Please feel free to join our community men.

The quilting ladies headed to Mason again last Friday. It was their third trip to what is a quilter’s paradise. The material bargains are outstanding, and we ladies piled our trunks full of goodies. We like to stop for lunch in Mason as well. We have one more trip planned on the 19th of August. If you would like to join us, call Kay McKee or Debbie Phelan. You can take your own car or ride in the church van. It is worth the trip, and the ladies are friendly and fun to be around. Regular quilting and Bible study will start in the next few weeks. Kay has a charm pack project for us this year.

The election is uppermost on many minds. My phone is overwhelmed by announcements and requests for money. I received my first notice from the southeast coordinator, David Downey, for the election campaign of Rennie Mann. His election campaign is not until 2025, but the way things go nowadays, things start early. He’s a good solid local man who represents many of the qualities appreciated in a conservative candidate.

The entire Brockman clan came to Richland Springs to celebrate in the baptism ceremony of Lucas Oldham. There was an abundance of hugs and prayers distributed amongst the family and congregation members. It was also the last Sunday that Brother Mack’s son, Caden, would be in church for a while. Caden is headed to seminary. He will carry many prayers and blessings with him as he pursues a degree in theology.

Prayers are needed for rain, for peace, for our elections, for our country and our border. They are still fighting fires out west, and the devastation is horrendous. Please pray for our firemen, first responders, police officers, border patrol, and most of all, our precious troops and their families. Stay cool and safe.
