The Richland Springs Report

Thursday, the 2024-2025 school year will begin for our students. This past week, the teachers have been attending professional development sessions and preparing their classrooms. I was privileged to attend one by motivational speaker, Aric Bostick. I highly recommend this speaker. It wasn’t just a matter of motivation, he certainly did that, but the depth of his presentation would have inspired the most hardened teacher. Mrs. Farris has attended classes all summer to improve her skills, and the result is very impressive. There is a new and positive attitude permeating the staff from top to bottom. The teachers have been treated to some delicious meals from First Baptist, Shiloh, and Kim Danford. Overall, it was a great staff week.

If you haven’t tuned in to the Coyote Nation podcasts, you are missing a treat. Jason Lewis and Barry Fikes have teamed up to interview and inform our Coyote community. You can catch their podcasts every Wednesday at 6 p.m. You can either download the Podbean app or go to podbean. com and go to the Coyote Nation site. They will have a wide range of guest interviewees each week. So, get the scoop from two excellent Coyote supporters.

Meet the Teachers night will be this Wednesday. This is the first opportunity parents get to visit with new teachers and hear the goals set by our new administration. The teachers have had a busy week of meetings, but they will be prepared for this important night.

I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but the Beautification committee has posted a Face Book notice for an upcoming event in September. This will be the Sandbur Boogie to be held at the Richland Springs rodeo arena from 7-11 p.m. I will post more information as the date gets closer.

The Richland Springs Beautification Committee has awarded Tami Lusty with the Yard of the Month for August. McKinnerney Real Estate sponsors this event. Tami will receive a $25 gift certificate from Skelton’s Hardware. Our citizens are doing their best to beautify our little corner of the world.

I went to the Elm Grove Rodeo Saturday evening. It was extremely hot and muggy, but what a show. I went to watch Spur Farris in the bronc riding. He had quite the ride. He is a sharp student and super athlete. Congratulations on this win. I earned a hard look from another student. I walked out between the cars as he was passing and said, “Hey, great ride.” That is not rude, but apparently his horse took exception to a surprise voice. My young man was not a happy camper. Did I tell you I came from the city? I was impressed by the size of the rodeo. I spent a few minutes with old friends Valerie Gossett and Paula Miller. I miss seeing them daily.

The Saturday Farmer’s Market is still happening at the Tabernacle. Also, please feel free to attend the Men’s Prayer Breakfast on Saturday in the Tabernacle. The breakfast is open to anyone in the area. Breakfast starts at 7:00 a.m. While you’re browsing round town, why not pop into Lord’s Farm for some fresh produce. It’s available all week.

I’m enjoying the Olympics. The United States is doing very well. It would be nice to have an Olympics without controversy, but it seems to come with the territory. I’m proud of our athletes.

Please pray for the Middle East issues, our country, our upcoming elections, and rain. Our neighbors out west are suffering from fires and destruction and need our prayers as well. Lord, protect the firefighters. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.

Time for school!
