The Richland Springs Report

Teachers are back in school this week, attending meetings, preparing classrooms and courses, as well as listening to opening remarks from our new Superintendent, Jeff Kirby. I’ve spent some time getting to know our new leader, and I’m impressed by his strong commitment to education and order.

I believe our school will prosper under his leadership in conjunction with a new resolution from Mrs. Wyatt. It appears to be a unified and goal driven administration. I wish our staff a blessed and successful school year.

I’ve fallen in love with my little house all over. We had to replace our windows on the north and west side thanks to hail damage. It was much more expensive than I had anticipated, but the results are stunning. Renewal by Anderson came Saturday morning and left early afternoon. They were efficient, clean, and professional. They left behind the most gorgeous windows that made me feel as if I could touch the trees outside my window. I feel like I’m in an arbor, surrounded by trees.

Local churches have been asked to provide a lunch for returning teachers on the first and the seventh. First Baptist and Shiloh were delighted to support our staff. I hope everyone comes to the meet the teachers. We have several new staff that will bring strength to our education program. We have five home games this year so there will be at least four fifth quarters at the First Baptist Church.

I hear the sad tale of grass burrs everywhere I travel. The early wonderful rains have blessed us with a bumper crop of those flesh piercing terrors. I love Texas, but it has some nasty inhabitants. The blister bugs are attacking my tomatoes, the grasshoppers are eating anything and everything, and the coons strip the fruit from my trees. You must be tough to live in Texas. Having said that, I still love Texas.

I’m glued to my television set trying to watch the Olympics. The pre-show announcers were talking about the whole production being kept a secret so it would be new to the world. Well, it was new, but the response was not approving. I’m not sure what brilliant reasoning was used to mock sacred Christian icons, or why demonic images were incorporated into a joyous occasion, but at least they closed the ceremony on a high note. I will confess I was one of the many who wept as Celine Dion raised her beautiful voice to the skies of Paris. I read that her Dior gown took over a thousand hours to make. It was a fitting showcase for her exceptional talent.

I waited in vain to see Simone Biles in the floor exercises, but NBC chose to show me the Brazilian team twice, but no Simone floor exercises. I’m having to go online to see events that don’t make the news. News to the programming department… I don’t want to see ping-pong or soccer with Serbia and somebody. I want to see our American athletes. I’m a little grumpy, as you can tell.

Please pray for our returning students and teachers, for our country, the Olympics, and our upcoming elections. I’m tired of the continued hate speech, but appears to be the nature of politics these days. We need to pray for civility and respect for one another. Our western states are experiencing massive fire damage and need prayer. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. May God bless America.
