The Richland Springs Report

Wow, what a show of strength our Lord gave us! No one will turn away the six inches or more of rain that was delivered, but the damage was rough. For the first time in years, my tank ran around.

The massive rains washed out my road and left two-foot craters on the road making it impassable with a car. My two sons-in-law, Bobby and Mark, put their heads and skills together, and my road is passable again. It’s not good, but passable. Roads around the area were flooded, and areas were cleaned out and deposited elsewhere. The downtown area was hit a little harder. The bank building leaked again, this time into the RS BoHo Unique. That shop hadn’t seen water inside for quite some time. Chrissy’s plants was the recipient of all the debris in the area and all those lovely plants Bobby planted traveled from their original planting place. Arlene and Walter Stratton had their peach tree snapped in two, and Paula and Mondo Garcia had a giant tree uprooted in their front yard. Overall, the rain was wonderful, but it did cause some issues.

Mrs. Wyatt put out the calendar for next week. This is safety week so all classes will attend a safety program. Thursday is the senior luncheon; Friday is the eighth-grade luncheon as well as the regional tennis meet. That will take us to the tenth and lead us into the final full week. Teachers will be gathering grades. Any students not turning in work will receive a failing grade. Please make sure all students keep up with work. It’s a busy time, and everyone needs to stay focused. Show your Coyote pride and get to school and turn in your work. The Senior Roping event was rescheduled to Sunday the 19th due to the weather.

Jayden Sutherland leaves Thursday to compete at the State meet. He designed a set for the play, and his exceptional work has earned him a place at State UIL. Rylie Eckert competed in the 800 meter and 1600 meter. We are enormously proud of her 6th and 7th place finishes. She is an outstanding student athlete.

We still have the Sports Banquet coming, our elementary awards day, a water day, and several other events before we can close the doors. The election for new school board members was over Saturday. Thank you to Chris and Kristy Perry for stepping up and being the alternate judges on Saturday. There was an excellent turnout, and that was partially due to an impressive group of candidates. The results are posted on Facebook. The winners are those with the highest vote counts. The results were very close. The top three candidates were Franky Soto Sr., Regan McKinnerney, and Paige Moats.

All candidates can ask for a recount before Wednesday. New members will be officially announced at that time. New members will have to attend a short course on the responsibilities of school board members.

One of their first tasks will be to thank Mr. Womack for his time with Richland and then find a new administrator for our little school.

I wish Mr. Womack and his family a blessed and prosperous time as they move to their new school town.

Thursday, there will be a Preservation Society meeting in the Community Center at 6:00 p.m. All members and interested persons are welcomed to attend. We will be discussing recent money-raising results and discussion of grant applications.

The third Saturday is the Men’s Prayer Breakfast. This will be held in the Tabernacle at 7:00 a.m. This is open to all men and their sons in the community regardless of church affiliation. I hear the food is delicious, and the company too, good. Come by and see for yourself.

Please pray for any damage down by the recent rains, for our country, our President, the elections, our border, and our battling Congress. Johnny Reeves continue to battle cancer, Lesa Landrum requires more prayers for her hip and hand issues, Michael Suber had shoulder surgery, Steve (a member of the First Baptist Church) had five stints put in last week, and many others. Most of all pray for our precious troops and their families.
