The Richland Springs Report

Welcome to spring, everyone. Fierce storms and fronts are part of the spring season. We have dodged several violent storms, unlike our fellow citizens in Mississippi and Tennessee. Our prayers go out to the hurting families there. We have not received a good spring rain.

Hopefully, this coming week we can get a good downpour and get some moisture into the ground around here. Lord, please send us a good soaking rain.

The eighth-grade students and parents had a successful Sunday luncheon fundraiser this past Sunday. Mrs. Bea cooked up some delicious enchiladas. These were paired with beans and Spanish rice.

As usual, there was a wide array of desserts. The meals were by donation only and went to help fund the eighth grade graduation at the end of the school year.

UIL academics competitions were held last week, and I’m pleased to say our students did us proud. Our athletic prowess often brings us public notice, but we have great teachers at RSISD and some excellent students who excel academically. There are multiple students who will advance to district competition in Waxahachie in mid-April.

Congratulations, everyone. Mondo Garcia posted a video of the mammoth rattlesnake he caught. I’m not sure if he won a prize, but he deserves one for that monster. He told me a few weeks ago that he and Lane had picked up several snakes from an area, alive, feisty and looking for trouble, but within an hour, they just died. He was concerned that they might have something wrong with them. Those of us who know and love him realize that when it comes to snake retrieval and removal, he is our man.

Our One Act Play group is headed to the area competition. Our play, Robin Hood, is well produced and has great actors and stagehands.

Connor Womack received the best actor award at the bi-district competition. They will perform this Saturday in Stephenville. Please check with the school to make sure of the times and the location.

There will be a men’s prayer breakfast at 7:00 a.m. this Saturday in the Tabernacle. All local men are invited to participate.

There will be an egg hunt on Easter Sunday after church in the city playground. All residents are welcome to participate. If you wish to supply filled eggs, please bring them to the church either this Wednesday around 4:00 p.m. or Sunday during service.

If you are a blood donor, Scott and White will have their spring donor clinic on Tuesday, April 18, from 12-6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in San Saba. Please call and make an appointment. They do take walk-ins.

This is a vital community service and donors are always needed.

We are less than three weeks away from the Trade Days here in Richland Springs. We even have a big TxDOT sign on highway 190. This will be a tremendous event. Please come out and support the nearly 100 vendors who will bring their merchandise to our area. You could get Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, and other odd events all done in one day. Don’t forget our local stores.

I want to put out a special prayer for cancer victims. There are so many families suffering from the many types of cancer we have around us. Our country, president and the world around us need serious prayers for God’s assistance. Please keep our police officers in your prayers, but most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. Have a wonderful week.
