The Richland Springs Report

I hate to leave all this lovely cold weather behind, but I’m headed to Costa Rica. Those of you who get your paper on Thursday can look to the skies and wave. I’m always glad to see my son and his wife, but this time I will get to see my sisters for the first time in three years. It will be a wonderful vacation, but it will also be a reunion with my family. God is good.

More exciting news about Richland Springs downtown expansion has arrived. The old gas station on Main Street has been sold, and a new business has opened. Cowboy Enterprises, owner Chuck Basquette, has welding services, trash hauling and dumpsters rentals. Those shiny new black trash trailers look outstanding. Call 512-4267713 for your hauling needs.

The Preservation Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday the 16th at 6:00 p.m. in the Community Center. President Jason Lewis is inviting all who would love to be a part of the restoration process of the bank building. Our County Agent is having a youth fair meeting on Monday the 27th in the courthouse to discuss next year’s youth fair. All who are interested are invited to attend.

The bi-district game for girls’ basketball was Monday against Blanket. Scores were not available in time for this column. Tuesday is the boys’ basketball game against Lohn. The newly developed powerlifting team competed this past week in their first ever competition. Congratulations and best of luck in the future as this new athletic event grows.

Remember to support our local vendors. We have two businesses up for sale, Mann Glass and the Feedlot. This is a small community; our local businesses cannot survive if we don’t shop there. Skelton’s Hardware, the Coyote Store, McKinnerney Real Estate, RS BoHo Unique, Hair It Is, and now Cowboy Enterprises, are open and waiting for customers. Help keep our city strong by shopping locally.

Vicky Moreno is undergoing more chemo to beat her cancer, Curtis Smith is recovering from heart surgery, Donna Hill has recovered from covid, Jeremy Young is going to an oncology group to get some answers. Several fund-raising efforts have helped raise funds since he has no insurance. There are scores of others who need healing and miracles in some cases. Please keep our sick in your prayers.

I’m headed to Costa Rica, and the next column will come from that sunny country. Perhaps I will be able to send some pictures. My sisters and are going to soak up the sun and water for 10 days. I’m praying for a safe and uneventful journey.

We need strong prayers to de-escalate the intrusions on our airspace; the people in Syria and Turkey need prayers and assistance for that devastating earthquake. I cannot imagine the agony they are experiencing. Please pray for our leaders, our economy, our peace, our police and border patrol and most of all our precious troops and their families. Stay warm and safe; have a wonderful week.
