The Richland Springs Report

I braved the heat tonight and went to the prayer walk for the school. I remember, back in 2018, that first walk organized by Dee Crump, the excitement and enthusiasm that flowed from the dozens of people who walked around and through the campus. I guess the heat was just too much for everyone. There was still a half dozen folks who spread a canopy of prayer over our Administrator, Principle, staff, and students. We prayed many Scriptures over all and prayed Psalm 91 for the safety of our precious students and staff. We may not have been many, but we were mighty in spirit. Thank you to all who came and to Dee Crump for her faithfulness year after year.

School officially starts for the kids on Thursday, August 10th. Teachers are already back preparing their classrooms for the first school day of the year. I spoke with an incoming fourth grader who was not excited about going back to school. I clutched my heart and complained about the pain he was giving me. When I pressed him as to why he was not excited, he said it was because he had to do division and fractions. I assured him he would ace the whole math class. I encourage all parents to be ready to help or get help if they think their little one is having trouble. We have great teachers at Richland. Help is always available. Why not come on the 9th and meet them all?

The Men’s prayer breakfast will be this Saturday the twelfth at 7:00 a.m. All men in the community are welcome to attend. If you want to start your son on the right path, bring him along as well. There’s plenty of good breakfast food and a short message to start your day. This is a community affair, not just a church affair. I hope to see many of you at the Tabernacle on Saturday morning.

I want to remind everyone that the back-to-school bash has been rescheduled for Monday, August 28th, from 5 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The church will send out flyers again the week before the event. This is open to school kids from Pre-K to 5th grade. Wednesday Church will begin on the 30th. Everyone is excited to see our super kids.

Russ is watching a John Wayne movie. I guarantee he wouldn’t be able to make that movie today without many of our “woke” or “politically correct” folks having a heart attack. Way too much male dominance, rough house, and stereotypical roles. I’ve seen it many times, but I still enjoy the humor.

There are so many hurting souls and sick people in our community. Debbie Phelan is the contact point for our prayer list. The top of the list is the request for rain. I believe the weatherman said we had gone 50 days without measurable rain. On the flip side, the Almanac is calling for an extremely cold winter. We’ll have to wait and see how good the predictions are. We need prayers for our cancer patients, Johnny Reeves, Jeremy Young, plus several others. Ginger Skelton has been placed in the Pecan Bayou Rehab facility while she recovers from her recent visit to the emergency room. All those on the prayer list have families that need as much prayer as the patient. Caring for loved ones is an exhausting task.

Please continue to pray for our firefighters. They have wildfires to battle with all this heat. Our police officers continue to face danger daily. Please pray for our border officers and the flood of people looking for a better way of life. Pray for the children who have been abused and trafficked. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. Watch out for students on the road.
