The ladies quilting group from First Baptist spent three wonderful days quilting to their hearts delight. Stonewall was the town, and Emma’s House was the destination. Kay Huffman is a wonderful hostess. One of the perks of this venue is the delicious evening meals prepared by Kay and her daughter Carolyn. Kay’s husband, Jack, is the critter keeper. You can sit out on the verandah and watch the deer come up to the feeders, hummingbirds in the summer, and cute Belted Galloway cattle grazing below you. Mind you, Friday was not the day to sit on any porch. When that norther blew in, we stayed inside. I’ve been asked what we do at these retreats and the answer is a multitude of things. Certainly, everyone sews and hopes to complete projects that have been waiting at home. This is also a group of Christian women from several local churches, and there is quite a bit of time spent discussing issues and problems. Most of all, there is a camaraderie that rises above the issues of the day. We love being with one another and sharing peaks and valleys in our lives. In other words, we enjoy one another. The group meets on Tuesdays at 4 p.m., and everyone is invited to learn and share.

This coming Saturday is the Art event at the Community Center. The ladies will be taught to paint a specific topic. The painting group provides all the materials needed to make your Rembrandt or Picasso. I fear my painting may be more on the Picasso line, but I’m hoping for a little Rembrandt look. Please be there promptly at 2 p.m. Thank you, Mindy Womack, for organizing this event.

The Gifted and Talented program at the school is having a luncheon this coming Sunday. First Baptist Church will postpone their dinner on the grounds until February so that the congregation can support our local students. Meals will be eat-in or take-out. The meal is on a donation-only basis. Come and support our kiddos.

I haven’t done our local vendors in a while. I’d like to start off with Hair It Is. Marilyn Suber is the only hair business open, although we have other ladies in town who are hairdressers in other towns. She has been my go-to lady for years. We have vending machines at Skelton’s Hardware and McKinnerney’s Real Estate office. Skelton’s Hardware has some amazing products and a limited amount of groceries. If they don’t have a product, they can order it for you. The Coyote Store has delicious sandwiches and shakes and a grocery and gift section as well. The Feedlot has hamburgers, pizzas, liquids, and farm supplies for our community. Mann Glass is there for all your glass needs, and McKinnerney’s Real Estate is our local agent for buying and selling property. RS BoHo Unique is our quaint and diversified store with specialty spices, coffees, and clothing products. We may be small, but we are good. Please shop locally.

Winter is back and with it, colds, flu, and other debilitating illnesses. Cedar fever has kicked up, and many of my friends are snuffling their way through the day. I brought my plants in tonight so they won’t die over the next week. They are promising rain, and I hope they are right. We are in dire need of rain in the area. The strong winds are doing damage to the roof of my old house. I may have to tear it down and build a new sewing room.

I hate cancer with a passion. We have prayer lists for people in the community, but we have had to make one list strictly for cancer patients. Please pray for the many people in our community that are suffering with this terrible disease. Jeremy Young has not been given the best of news, but at least they are holding out some hope for his cancer. We have lost many people over the last few months, please pray for their families. Inflation is hurting many families, and putting food on the table and keeping a roof over their families is tough. So, please pray for our government, our President, and keep your local politician honest and informed about your opinions. Pray for our enforcement officers, and most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. Have a great week. It’s almost February.
