Preservation Society meeting July 25, 2023

The Richland Springs Preservation Society held a business meeting on July 22, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. in the Community Center.

There were six officers present: Jason Lewis, President; Paige Moates, Vice-President; Franky Soto, Treasurer; Chrissy Baker, Secretary; and Sue Ransom, Reporter.

Several community members attended the meeting. Franky Soto reported on the progress made on building repairs. The roof was refinished with a sealant by Troy Soto. Although the entire roof needs replacing, this could be a good temporary fix. They will have to wait for a good rain to see. The Old Roy Miller Lumberyard and Hardware space has been updated with electricity on two walls.

RS Boho Unique owners Jackie and Chuck Basquette reported that the last rain had not resulted in much leakage in their area. The committee and members voted to leave their rent at its present level for the coming year. Their store is an asset and improvement to our downtown area. Storage tenant, A. Robinson, is in negotiations with the committee regarding her annual rent.

The group listened to a presentation by Sue Ransom regarding the vacant space on the main floor. The proposal is to repair and open a retail area that will serve as both an entertainment venue and a business venture: a computer area for websites, faxes and secretarial work will be available; some retail will be sold; and then areas for crafts will be set up for group events. There will also be notary services on site. The members present voted to approve the venture.

The small barber shop was also mentioned, but the proposed renter could not cover the costs of repairs. It will continue to be used as overflow storage. Franky also requested that a call for volunteers be sent out to continue to clean up the upstairs area. This will be announced in the future.

The Society is seeking grants for assistance with the repairs needed, as well as donations to help with the tax bill due. If you are interested in being a part of the restoration of our beloved bank building, please consider sending in a donation for repairs and taxes.

Checks can be made payable to the RSPS or Richland Springs Preservation Society. The mailing address is: P.O. Box 153, Richland Springs, Texas, 76871. Please help restore our historical landmark.
