The Pierian Study Club met for their first meeting of the year at the new “Filling Station” on Wallace Street. Hostesses for the meeting were the Cards and Flowers Committee, composed of Anita Adams, Chairman, Leah Oehrlein, Jeri Jones and Mary Morehead. Associate Member Kay Nettleship assisted Anita in the absence of her committee members.

The program today was presented by Allen Trotter, owner of The Filling Station. Allen has been working for the last year restoring the old Gulf Station back to its originality. He stressed that this Gulf Station is a real treasure for the City of San Saba as most of the old gas stations were destroyed in the 70’s. He expects to open The Filling Station in the near future featuring a 50’s Diner Menu such as hamburgers, fries, ice cream, etc. Good luck to Allen on the success of this new business, and we look forward to having a good old milk shake!

After the program, Marci Dyer opened the meeting with the club call. Members attending today were Anita Adams, Marjean Alexander, Loy Nell Behrens, Cecil Bell, Gail Bruner, Susan Clark, Marcia Dwyer, Kathleen Hawkins, Gale Ivy, Rene McBee, Shelly Mahan, Kathy McEwin, Cydney Pearce, Patty Shaw, Marsha Smart, Sandy Smith, Audrey Smith, Martha Leigh Whitten, Anna Wilson, and Cissy Williams. Associate Members Kay Nettleship and Patricia Warren were also present.

Members were served ice cream along with peanut butter or chocolate cookies for dessert with bottled water.

President Marcia Dyer opened the meeting with the Club Collect.

Committee chairmen were asked to give a report if needed. Projects Committee Chairman Shelly Mahan, said that the Dove Project was in need of pots and pans and that next month a monetary collection would be taken for the facility. The Dove Project is one of Pierian’s projects.

Kathleen Hawkins, treasurer, presented a breakdown of the memorials that have been donated to the Scholarship Fund for the club. Member dues are due at this time. The Scholarship Fund is in good shape at this time.

Anita Miles read her letter transferring from Active Member to Associate and a letter was read from Sherry Ruddick cancelling her membership. Two new prospective members, Donna Baxter and Rhonda Killian, were voted into the Club on a unanimous vote by membership.

The February meeting will be held on February 10, 2022, at the home of member Joanne Weik and will feature a program from Donna Blossman on Mission San Saba. All members are encouraged to attend.
