One Lemonade Stand... One Determined Young Girl!

Amanda Perry is a random lady who walked into the museum one Saturday a week ago. She is not from here but has property in Hamilton and a lease in Brady. Her family has been coming through this area for years.

Celia Bell and Deanne Cromer were just talking to her that Saturday in the museum when she said she had this money her daughter had collected. She wanted to donate it in San Saba. Deanne suggested the elementary school. She told her there are probably some kids that have been displaced that could use a helping hand. Amand and her daughter, Rayleigh, were very happy about this idea. The money was given to San Saba Elementary School Principal Dani Gilcrease.

This is the heart-warming story of how this money was raised...

Last Sunday afternoon in Burleson, Texas, Amanda Perry’s 12-year-old daughter, Rayleigh, decided that she wanted to help some of the flood victims in south Texas.

Rayleigh decided to open a lemonade stand in her yard and take donations. Her mom tried to persuade her to do this on another day as they didn’t have many supplies to work with, but Raleigh would not take no for an answer. She made a sign, set up a table and collected all the baked goods and supplies from her mom and grandmother’s house that she could find.

After just one afternoon, she had collected over $700 in donations from the generous people who passed by her stand. Her family traveled to south Texas and gave some of the money to one woman in Kerrville who lost her entire home and the rest to San Saba Elementary to be spent on some of the kids that have been displaced and might need a little extra help this year.

Rayleigh is certainly an extraordinary girl with a big heart! We thank her for her service and kindness during this historic flood. Our students will certainly be blessed by her work!
