The 167th consecutive camp meeting, hosted annually by the members of the Bend United Methodist Church, has been set for June 5-8. Services are to be held at the historic Methodist Campground on Cherokee Creek near Chappel Community.
Members of the Bend United Methodist Church are pleased to announce that Carl Rohlfs of Junction, Texas, will be the evangelist for this year's revival. Rev. Rohlfs was born in McKinney, Texas, and was raised in San Antonio, Dilley, and Corpus Christi. He holds a B.A. from Southern Methodist University and a Masters of Theology from Perkins School of Theology. Fulltime appointments have taken him to Irving, Victoria, Corpus Christi, Del Rio, San Angelo, and University UMC in Austin, and he also served a term as District Superintendent in San Antonio.
After 49 years in vocational ministry, Carl retired in June of 2017. For the past 12 years, he has served as the Methodist preacher for the annual Bloys Camp Meeting near Ft. Davis. Many in this area are familiar with that camp meeting.
Pastor Rohlfs is married to Barbara Nelson Rohlfs, a retired public school teacher. He likes to say they live on their 'little piece of country' in West Kimble County. They have two sons, two daughters-in-law, and five very special grandchildren.
A complimentary meal will be served at 6 p.m. with the service to follow at 7 p.m.
The camp meeting will end on Sunday, June 8. Sunday School will be at 10 a.m., followed by the final worship service at 11 a.m. A covered dish meal will be shared at noon. Everyone is invited to come and be a part of this historic event.
