Rhonda Killion hosted the Pierian Study Club in her beautiful home on Thursday, November 10.
Chief of Police John Bauer presented a very informative program which supported the club’s theme for the year, Embracing Our Community. Delicious cake, toasted pecans, fresh grapes, infused water, and coffee were served by the Nominating Committee consisting of Celia Bell, Ann McElroy, Patty Shaw, and Martha Leigh Whitten.
First Vice-President Joanne Weik conducted the meeting, and Marsha Smart read the minutes of the October meeting in the absence of secretary Jacqueline Carlson. Active members in attendance were Marjean Henderson-Alexander, Donna Baxter, Celia Bell, Gail Bruner, Tracy Farley, Catherine Hanrahan, Kathleen Hawkins, Gale Ivy, Shelly Mahan, Rhonda Killion, Ann McElroy, Kathy McEwin, Janis Murray, Mary Margaret Morehead, Cydney Pearce, Patty Shaw, Marsha Smart, Sandy Smith, Joanne Weik, Martha Leigh Whitten, Cissy Williams, and Associate Member, Sherry Ruddick.
Kathleen Hawkins gave the club’s treasury balance and also reported on membership. Letters from Loy Nell Behrens and Patty Shaw were read which requested being moved from Active members to Associate. Linda Sloan is moving from Associate membership to Honorary. The club appreciates the dedication of these ladies. New members who will be joining Pierian are Alita Bagley and Maela Edmondson.
Project Committee chairman, Cissy Williams, thanked the club for donations to the Dove Project last month. She also encouraged members to select a child’s name from the Angels Unaware tree and purchase gifts totaling at least $40. Unwrapped gifts in gift bags should be returned at the December meeting.
Tracy Farley distributed invitations to the club’s next meeting, a Christmas Tea, on December 1, at the home of Kay Nettleship. An RSVP is requested by November 15.
Celia Bell announced that the San Saba County Museum is selling Christmas note cards designed by Jane Felts Mauldin. The cards depict Santa in his sleigh flying over the county courthouse. In another announcement, Cissy Williams reminded members of a Family Resource Center meeting on Monday, December 14, at the First Baptist Church fellowship hall.
