The Daughters of the Republic of Texas promotes the celebration of Texas Honor Days. The Welcome W. Chandler Chapter invites you to fly the Texas flag on these days! Stephen F. Austin's Birthday (November 3, 1793) Known as the Father of Texas, Stephen F. Austin carried on his father, Moses' work to establish the first Anglo-American Colony 'The Old 300,' by bringing 300 families to a part of Mexico in what is now known as Texas.Austin was imprisoned in a Mexican jail for defending the colonists' rights. He was a man of patience and diplomacy, a 'thinker,' who made things happen. Each year, a celebration is held at the site of his death in Brazoria County. DRT Founders Day (November 6, 1891) On this date, a group of 17 ladies met in Houston in the home of Mrs. Andrew Briscoe to carry out the idea of Misses Betty Ballinger and Hally Bryan for organizing a Republic of Texas daughters' organization to meet the Texas Veterans. Any woman having attained her 16th birthday is eligible for membership in the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, provided she is a lineal descendant of a man or woman who rendered loyal service for Texas prior to the consummation of the Annexation Agreement of the Republic of Texas with the United States of America on the nineteenth day of February, eighteen hundred forty-six (19 February 1846).
