Still Plugging Along

Awhile back I wrote about how I was planning to sort through all of my house, get rid of some things, and organize what was left. No, I am not reminding you so that I can tell you I have failed. I am telling you that it is a long, drawn-out process.

I have managed to make a sizable dent in things, but there is much more to go. I sorted through books and magazines and passed off probably two hundred pounds of quilt magazines and books to a kind lady in town who was happy to have them. I sorted through some of my quilting and sewing supplies and found several things that I was able to give away to my similarly crafty friends. After that, I finally replaced some rickety shelves with some solid shelves and was able to organize several more things on said shelves. Finally, I rearranged my sewing space yet again and seem to have found a good layout, although it is still a bit crowded.

Right about the time I finished all that, the Big Winter Storm happened. While we were far more fortunate than many, we still had some broken pipes in our second bathroom. Thankfully, since that bathroom was an add-on, it has its own water cutoff. Less fortunate is the fact that my laundry set-up was in that bathroom. But back to good fortune, I still have my old laundry hook-ups in my pantry. I put my name on Mr. Morgan’s “needs plumbing help” list but told them I should not be considered to be in a state of emergency. So I remain with one working bathroom and my laundry situation scattered around the house.

As we creep closer to setting our home, ranch, and business back on course, I have been delving into the organizing again. One aspect of the organizing that I may have mentioned is that I intend to use up some things—cook up groceries, sew up fabric, and knit/ crochet up yarn. I am still cooking nearly all of our meals at home, so that takes care of the groceries part. I have been doing a little knitting and crocheting, but those are not quick projects, ever. I have been sewing a little—I made my granddaughter’s favorite stuffed animal a quilt and used up all of my little Japanese charm squares, and I have been busy today cutting up some of my fabric stash to make some organizer bags. Oh, and I made nightgowns for my mother and me, although I bought new fabric for those.

I made the winter-to-summer closet switch a couple of weeks ago and realized that about half of my summer wardrobe is at least 10 years old. I have accumulated a fabulous assortment of fabrics for warm-weather clothes, so I really have no excuses for not refreshing my summer closet. I do have a few things lined up already and am hoping once I knock out a couple of skirts and tops, I will be on a sewing roll.

I am beginning to think this organizing and cleaning project may still be going on next January! It is always amazing just how many curve-balls life can throw into the best of plans.
