We have had a busy few weeks here at Cherokee ISD, so my apologies for no articles being published the last couple of weeks. October is notoriously the busiest month of the fall semester!

Our Cherokee Indians football team beat Rochelle back on October 29th with a final score of 54-38. The first points on the board came from Joel Valdez. The PAT was good by Rode Ligon. Rochelle responded with a touchdown of their own, tying up the score. Kase Bordner scored the next touchdown with a pass from Valdez. Valdez made another touchdown pass to Ligon and yet another to Gunner Baugh. PATs were good by Ligon. Erick Miller scored a touchdown, and the PAT by Ligon was good bringing Cherokee’s score to 40. Rochelle attempted a comeback at this point bringing the score to 40-32. Valdez responded with a touchdown, followed by a Rochelle touchdown. The game was brought to a close with a touchdown pass from Valdez to Ligon and the PAT was good. This game secured our playoff position.

The Indians went on to play Blanket at Zephyr. Valdez, Ligon, and Miller put points on the board for Cherokee with tons of support from the rest of the team. The game ended with a score of 51-6 in favor of the Indians. They will advance to the next level in the playoffs. They will play Oakwood in Hico this Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Go Indians!

Our girls have begun their basketball season as the varsity girls competed against Panther Creek. The Lady Indians were victorious in a nail-biter of a game with a final score of 35-32. We are excited for what’s to come this season!

We enjoyed a wonderful Fall Festival on the 30th of October put together by our PTC. There were pumpkin decorating contests, costume contests, games, delicious food, magic shows, amazing silent auction baskets, and so much more. This event is our PTC’s biggest fundraiser, and we are so grateful to our community for supporting us. Our PTC raised approximately $6,000 this year, blowing previous years way out of the water! These funds allow our PTC to do so much for our school. In fact, they went and put it right into action, providing each student with a movie ticket, drink, popcorn, and candy at the LanTex movie theater last week. When we were faced with the unique situation of a planned electrical outage, our administrators and our PTC put together a day of fun for our students.

We will be out next week on Wednesday and Thursday in honor of Thanksgiving. We hope everyone has a great break with lots of rest and feasts!
