We are back from Thanksgiving break and ready to tackle the rest of 2020! The break was much needed and appreciated by students, parents, and staff alike, but we are looking forward to the remaining three weeks of the semester.

Before the break, our Cherokee Indians faced the Calvert Trojans in the second round of the football playoffs. Coach White summarizes, “We had the ball inside the 10-yard line two times in the first half and couldn’t get it in the end zone. We were down 14-0 at halftime. We cut the lead to 11 most of the second half but couldn’t get a few stops down the stretch.” The season ended with only 16 teams left in the state. Of his team, Coach White says, “We are so proud of this group of seniors: Zayne Porch, Weston Steifel, Chris Watson, Tristian Arkansas and Hunter Wisdom. They had the top 5 hardest schedule in all of division 2 six-man football last year and went 1-8 to a turnaround of 8-4 and only 3 points from a district championship this year. We will have three offensive and defensive starters back and some quality young guys coming up from junior high and underclassmen.” The future is looking bright for our Indians, and we are all excited to see what comes next for them.

Next week, we will have a Christmas program on the football field featuring students from all grade levels. Please come, dressed warmly and with masks, and enjoy some Christmas cheer from Cherokee ISD!
