Why hello there, my San Saba friends, and how in the world have you been since last we spoke? I certainly hope the hot Texas sun has renewed your vitamin D supply and not made you feel as if you were an egg frying on a sidewalk. Dad hates the heat, but then again, he is intolerant of the cold, too…I suppose he doesn’t much like weather at all anymore. I have to admit, the poor man walks around in summer looking quite like a drenched dish towel and with about as much snap.

My siblings call dad all the time, and if they cannot get in touch with him, they think the worst has happened, sound the alarm, send out the troops and call out the dogs! Dad’s phone was not receiving calls, and I had messages on the Facebook page, posts and even messages from friends who never met my siblings, to - please have dad call his children! Mom found it all quite amusing because dad hates Facebook, and yet he would never have known something was wrong with his phone had I not gotten those messages. My friends there are family, and so are friends with my siblings, and look out for them.

I went for a walk at the Nature Center, and I saw all of my park ladies for the first time in ages! Oh the reunion was wonderful…so many hugs, kisses, belly rubs! I have to say they looked wonderful, and I had missed them so very much! When something like that happens to me, it is like receiving a present and makes the rest of my day truly wonderful!

When dad finally spoke to my brother, Dean, last night, he had such a funny story to tell. Dean lives in Austin, and he said he was shopping at a sporting goods store and began a conversation with a man about hunting leases. The man asked where his lease was, and when Dean said he had one in San Saba, the man said… “I live in San Saba.” Dean told him his parentals did too! The man asked who his parentals were, and Dean told him. The man introduced himself, and it was Jim Bob Everett! When dad told mom, her eyes lit up…Jim Bob always made her laugh with all his teasing about her being a vegetarian.

It seems my column has a bit of a theme this week…our world, as large as it, can be very small sometimes. I had a message from a dear friend from Ohio telling me to tell the parentals to call our kids, and a brother who met a friend from here a hundred miles away in a store by chance. Some things should never be left to chance. There is so much unrest in the world, so much that needs fixing. At the end of the day when each of us lay our heads on a pillow, we of common mind, heart and soul…we want a good life, to live with the freedom to be who and what we are. I love you, my San Saba dears, and I thank you for being!
