Corbett Parker and Amie first visited San Saba in April 2018, attended church at SSFBC, listened to Brother Sam, met Gail Bruner, and had lunch will her immediately afterwards, coming to adore her and her passion for making San Saba even better.

On Friday, August 24, 2018, Corbett got engaged and decided to take his now finance, Amie, and friends on a “spur of the moment jaunt to San Saba to celebrate.” During this visit, Gail, a “spry young lady,” accommodated their arrival by transporting them to and from the airport in a “pick up truck” and telling them about our “awesome, little city,” making their trip memorable. To help thank Gail, they left a little of their money at our wonderful, quaint establishments: Alamo Pecan & Coffee, then Harry’s Boots, then Oliver & Co., then JC Campbell Mercantile, then Old Man Scary Cellars before taking a brief stroll through gorgeous Risien Park. They could not wait to return!

They loved San Saba’s quaintness immediately. They even tried to plan their wedding here in April 2019 but could not make it work.

On October 19, 2019, they returned and brought more friends and family with them, (most from the Rotary Club of Houston Skyline); they spent the weekend in San Saba. The group lodged in varies places throughout town, spent money in town, visited/revisited our establishments in town, but best of all, they all VOLUNTEERED. Keep San Saba Beautiful (KSSB) was thrilled to have this 16+ group visit, but when they spent the day cleaning beds, and replanting flowers in our Mill Pond Park, KSSB was blessed to have their assistance.

Corbett, Amie and Laura & Blake Durand returned again on the weekend of October 24, 2020. Once again, they volunteered to assist KSSB with their fall planting in Mill Pond Park. They enjoyed every visit, especially the private tour of the renovated courthouse since Corbett is an attorney, and also meeting Clay Nettleship and seeing the build out of the Pecan House Grill ready to return and to eat there on their next visit.

It is unbelievable that this group not only comes to visit San Saba but volunteers to work all day making our park more beautiful. Once total strangers to our town, they now take pride in its beauty and continue to come and help and be a part of San Saba. Corbett added that they would be visiting more often and are planning to return in the spring.

THANK YOU for making San Saba a greener, more beautiful place to live.
