Hello there, my San Saba loves, and how have you been since last we spoke? It has been quite a week in the human world, and not one that historians will be writing about with joy. Hurricane Ida brought back many unpleasant memories in our house as the parentals have lived that fear many times. Dad was watching it blow in on YouTube, and he asked mom if she still missed the beach. And she gave the most ridiculous answer…“Yes!”

Covid is sweeping this country like a witch with an angry broom! Mom told me and dad something so disturbing we were not quite sure we heard her correctly because what she said seemed so impossible, so absolutely stupid and outrageous we did not think it could be true. Mom said here in San Saba if you have a child who tests positive for Covid you do not have to keep your other children home from school but may allow them to attend with the other children! That is paramount to serving anthrax meat for dinner! When did we stop caring? This dachshund is sad, so incredibly sad because I never stop caring.

Um, you know how people say…“I didn’t know which way was up!” I can tell you, as a dachshund, that is one problem I have never experienced; in fact, I do believe they named an adorable movie after dachshunds because all we know is UP! Yeah, when you are a dog ground dweller, everything is up, the people you love and whom love you, your food, their food, the couch, birds, squirrels…well the entire world! I have to do acrobatics in order to try to catch a glimpse of what dad has on the kitchen counter, use steps to climb couch Kilimanjaro, and be picked up like a baby to be put in my cradle (dad’s bed) every night! Trust me. I always know which way is up, and it will never be the way I am growing!

I told mom was I planning a trip to Africa; yep, I am going on safari. Mom just laughed and said she was sure I planned to Cheet-ah, have her buy me a safari set and play with it in the living room. But hey, I am serious; I do not cheat! Such withstanding, I think I do need some new toys. I love you my San Saba friends ever so much. Please take very special care of yourselves and those you love. No matter how troubled life may be, our days are so special, our moments all the more worth cherishing because of the choppy waters. I hope you have a wonderful week until we speak again, and thank you for being.
