Happy Herman's Hideaway

Journey Into Spring

Hello my San Saba friends and how have you been since last we spoke? I can sure tell you on more than one of the days since our last conversation I have been glad for space heaters, blankets and the fact I am a furry dachshund! Man am I ever tired of the cold! This may sound rude but thank goodness dad is like having a nice hot water bottle to curl up next to.

I saw a butterfly yesterday and it made me think how grateful to be for each day. It also made me wonder where their eyes are, how they learn to fly because it really did not seem to know where it was going. I mean it obviously did not file a flight plan with anyone and the moment I thought it was going in for a landing, it would pull up and be back in the air. I mean I have heard the saying… butterflies are free and I realize this, if I had gone into the yard to catch it no one would have popped up to charge me for it but my question is are butterflies able to see?

You know, I get a bit irritated because I happen to know dad has eaten escargot and yet when I go out on the front porch to search out snails to crunch he gets all upset with me! Okay, so I want to eat shell and all… do I say anything to him when he sits on the couch eating shrimp tails and not sharing a single bite with me, nope! A dear friend of mine sent me a sweat shirt and on it says…”I have issues”. My Aunt Janette has known me since I was a tiny puppy, perhaps she is absolutely correct. Lately I have been getting in mom’s face and demanding she fix something to eat so she can share it with me and she keeps telling me I have to wait until she gets hungry; I find it infuriating. Yeah, I might just have a problem.

Well we are done with January and February is upon us. Mom says on February 5th her mom would have been 98 years old and it is her youngest sister’s, Kathie, birthday too. My eyes got even bigger than they usually are because of all the birthday presents in the world I cannot imagine getting a baby as a present. Mom told me she thought Shawn might be born around her birthday but he arrived 18 days before. Life is so full of amazing gifts, treasures immeasurable and precious. I have spent much time this past week thinking about it as I have had to face the possibility of losing what is dear to me. I am not special, however, each one of us live with that threat always and that is why kindness, caring, hope, laughter, humor, fun, silliness, accepting others, tolerance, empathy and love should be your menu of life. I love you my San Saba sweethearts and thank you for being.
