Happy Herman's Hideaway

Houston, We Have a Herman Problem

Hello, my dear San Saba loves, and how in the world have you been since last we spoke? I am quite convinced the forces of nature have been experimenting with making Texas the newest oven and its resident’s crispy critters! On the positive side, I have spent a lot more time with dad as his melting point is 100 degrees - so anything above that and he must come inside to avoid becoming a puddle of sweat. Yeah, he cannot risk mom walking outside, seeing a puddle of goop on the ground, getting a broom and sweeping it out to the end of the driveway!

I am a firm believer in scientific exploration and confirmation of theories, and it got me in trouble last week. It is also no secret I am a sneak hound, and if the parentals leave the room, I immediately search their side tables for things of interest. Mom left the room for a few moments, returned, and everything was fine. She resumed her activity, and I was on the hardwoods being me. Everything was going swimmingly well; mom thought I was chewing on one of my toys because of the sound I was making. But then she happened to see a flash of white, and I do not own any white toys. She asked me what I was chewing…as if I would actually show her. She got up, grabbed the Chez Whiz and retrieved my experiment! I have to say, the woman gave no thought to science at all and only cared I had her prescription eye drops! Furthermore, her upset was two-fold: she was frightened I might have actually ingested the liquid and upset I had just ruined her steroidal eye drops! I really think she was torn between hugging me close and yelling at me, so she just went in the kitchen shaking her head to throw the mess away! One would think I learned my lesson, but nope, not for a minute…that evening I snagged dad’s socks and two paper towels from his end table! I am just that good and stealthy!

I would like to make a point of order at this juncture. Animals and small children cannot read and often do not have the cognitive ability to discern the difference between those things they are allowed to have and the things they are not. Therefore it is my contention - it is the responsibility of the adults in the house to keep all things not animal or child friendly out of their reach. It truly saves worry and Chez Whiz.

Mom was talking about the new school year starting, and part of me wishes I could go to school. I would love to have a packed lunch! Yep, you have no idea how happy a dachshund I would be if I had a chicken sandwich, Cheetos and cookies for lunch! The only thing is, if I had to put them in a locker, I would be standing outside it barking my head off, get sent to the principal’s office, bark at him and get sent home for being rude! It is probably best if I just eat chicken at home.

Well, my San Saba loves, I hope you have a really wonderful week until next we speak. Please take good care of yourself. I wish all the children preparing for school the very best. Education is the most wonderful journey. I love you, my friends, and thank you for being!
