Grady, Haviland, Mann recognized at January City Council meeting

In Mayor Ken Jordan’s and Mayor Pro-Tem Robert Whitten’s absence, Alderman Shawn Oliver called the January 14th City Council meeting to order, announced a quorum present, and Alderman Marcus Amthor led the Invocation and Pledges.

There were no public comments.

Presentations:

Courtney Grady, Police Department Admin., was selected as the Employee of the Month for January. San Saba Police Chief Steven Newkirk and Alderman Marcus Amthor presented Courtney with a plaque with her name on it and a gift certificate to a local restaurant.

San Saba Police Chief Steven Newkirk introduced and congratulated Steven (Lane) Haviland, a current graduate of the Central Texas College Texas Peace Officer Academy and a new Officer of the San Saba Police Department, and presented him with a graduation plaque. Steven (Lane) Haviland introduced his family members in attendance to the City Council and attendees.

San Saba Police Chief Steven Newkirk introduced Ty Mann, the newest Police Officer to the San Saba Police Department.

Consent Agenda Items

The following Consent Agenda Items were unanimously approved: minutes from the December 10, 2024 council meeting; payment of bills; approved Resolution No. 2025-01 designating the San Saba News and Star as the official town newspaper; and acceptance of 2024 Racial Profiling Report.

Resolution No. 2025-01 A Resolution Of The City Council Of The City Of San Saba, Texas, Designating The San Saba News And Star As The Official City Newspaper 

WHEREAS, Local Government Code § 52.004 requires that a municipality shall contract with and name an official newspaper; and, WHEREAS, The San Saba News and Star meets the statutory requirements of eligibility for designation as an official newspaper.

Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved By The City Council Of The City Of San Saba, Texas That The San Saba News And Star Is Designated The Official Newspaper Of The City Of San Saba, Texas.

Passed, approved and resolved this the 14th day of January, 2025.

Discussion/Action Items: 

The first item for discussion/ action was to Discuss and consider approval of Financial Audit for the year ending September 30, 2024. Kevin Shahan will be present to answer questions. Kevin Shahan and thanked the Council for allowing him to prepare the City's Audit. Kevin said the City was a nice group of people to work with. He addressed the City Council and asked them to review the three letters and see the Statement Summary in front of the audit. Mr. Shahan explained and provided information as went through the audit. He gave the Audit a Clean Opinion for the 2024 Year Report. Mr. Shahan said the Internal Controls were functioning properly and continues to do so. Mr. Shahan also gave a 'Thank you' to Charlene, Sabrina, the City Manager, and the Girls at City Hall. After reviewing the audit, he said he is available if anyone has any questions about the audit and appreciates the City's transparency. The 2024 Financial Audit was unanimously approved.

City Manager's Report: 

City Manager Scott Edmonson gave a brief report on the following activities in the City of San Saba:

• Scott Glaze and I met yesterday for the ADA inspection and the only issues were handrail issues;

• Scott Glaze and I will meet with the Engineers and the Contractor to do the punch list regarding the sidewalk project;

• most of the Christmas lights have been taken down;

• I will be attending the King Cole Training on January 29th through January 31st;

• will attend a meeting this week for the SWAK Committee;

• received the Wastewater Plant Inspection report back and will need to revise on reporting days and had to build a fence separating the Golf Course and Sewer Plant.

Other Reports:

Scott Glaze, Public Works Director, reported that since the Greens at the Golf Course have been changed, we now have to cover them and will be needing people to help; last year Georgetown loaned the Golf Course tarps.
