Congratulations to Melinda Walker at 703 W. Pecan Street on being named October Yard of the Month. Melinda graduated from San Saba High School in 1986 and always knew she would move back one day. Melinda purchased her home in 2017 and retired as Chief Reporter from U. House of Representatives in August 2019; at that time she moved to San Saba to make her home here.

Melinda loved to garden and worked all the time at her former home in Virginia. Not being familiar with which varieties of plants and flowers that work well with San Saba’s climate, she sought out the help of Stephanie Falkner at Bloom 'N' Sprout. Stephanie helped Melinda to design and plant the lovely plants and flowers. The front porch is very welcoming featuring fall décor, plants and a beautiful fall painting that Melinda painted.

In the front of the home, there are three Sandankwa Viburnum plants and lovely Dwarf Pittosporum’s showing off the side of the porch. The west side of the home features a peach/orange bush that, when blooming, is quite fragrant. The front of the corner beds is filled with Purple Verbena’s and Drift Coral rose bushes. Planted in the front window is a Texas Mountain Laurel that Melinda enjoys especially when the tree is blooming!

Down the east side of the home, there are Caladiums and Hosta interspersed with African Iris. Pecan trees run along side of the home. A Split-Leaf Philodendron, an Indian Hawthorne, Majestic Beauty, and Gardenia plants line the east side of the home.

Mixed between everything, Melinda added several annuals for color: mums and pansies.

Welcome back to San Saba. Melinda has made her place into a beautiful home with a lovely yard filled with eye catching flowers and plants. Thank you, Melinda, for helping keep San Saba beautiful. Drive by 703 W. Pecan and enjoy this charming historic home and yard!
