Elm Grove Echoes

It's almost time for one of Richland Springs' favorite traditions—the annual Stars & Stripes Celebration on Saturday, July 4. Our community always does a wonderful job of coming together to celebrate our nation's independence with plenty of small-town pride, patriotic spirit, and family fun. Whether you're a longtime resident or returning home for the holiday, make plans to join friends and neighbors as we celebrate the freedoms we enjoy and honor those who have helped preserve them. For more information, contact Gunner Mann at 214-663-8307.

The Country Fair Bonanza adds even more excitement to the Stars & Stripes weekend. Entries will be accepted on Friday, July 3, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Categories include cakes, pies, breads, cookies, brownies, cupcakes, salsa, hot sauce, jams, and jellies. Judging will be based on appearance, preparation techniques, and taste. Winners will be announced Saturday morning during the parade downtown, and the champion entries will be featured in the live auction at the fish fry Saturday evening around 6:00 p.m. For additional information, contact Kim Lewis at 325-203-1259.

The Elm Grove Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank everyone who attended and supported this year's Fish Fry. A total of 138 plates of delicious catfish were served during the event. While attendance was a little lower than in some years, the turnout was still good, and the department greatly appreciates the continued support of the community. Fundraisers such as the Fish Fry help provide equipment, training, and resources needed to serve our area. Donations to the Elm Grove Volunteer Fire Department are welcomed and appreciated year-round, and every contribution helps support the dedicated volunteers who stand ready to answer the call whenever needed.

I recently had the opportunity to travel to Washington State to spend a few days with my son, Rod, and my two grandsons, and it was a wonderful trip filled with family time and precious memories. The flight was smooth both ways, and I thoroughly enjoyed the cool Pacific Northwest weather. Morning temperatures were often in the 40s, and when we left Seattle last Thursday, it was a crisp 47 degrees. Just a few hours later, we stepped off the plane in Austin to a Texas temperature of 99 degrees— a reminder of how different our climates can be! While I enjoyed every minute of the visit, it was difficult to say goodbye knowing that Rod will be deploying to the Middle East within the next 10 days. Please join me in keeping Rod, all of our military men and women, veterans, and their families in your prayers. We are grateful for those who serve and sacrifice to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day.

Back here at home, Mother Nature reminded us that she is still in charge. Last Friday, our area received an impressive 3.2 inches of rain in a short period of time. It is somewhat unusual to be approaching July and still see such green pastures, lush trees, and healthy grass across the countryside. Blessings abound!

Have a blessed week!
