100 Years Ago July 26, 1923

J. A. Head will close his vocal class at Pecan Grove with lots of good singing, and a pie supper.

Hon. Lynch Davidson of Houston has accepted an invitation to speak at our fair.

Horace Breazeale has accepted a position with A. R. Mosley in Dallas and left to resume his former employment with that firm.

Mrs. Cage Moore, accompanied by her granddaughters, Miss Effie Taff and Lille Bee Bitts are visiting the formers sister, Mrs. Joe Hall at Fort Worth. The sisters had not seen each other for fifty years.

Miss Elizabeth Hopkins entertained a number of her friends with a Movie Party which continued as a slumber party at the hospitable home of the hostess' parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Hopkins. The young folks report a most enjoyable time.

We herewith acknowledge the announcement of the graduating exercises of the Howard Payne Academy which includes the graduation of Miss Lena Lee Barnett of Locker. Miss Barnett is one of the talented young ladies of this county and we hope she will continue her educational ambitions.

A local house caught fire. The residents were drying clothes when the lint trapped in the dryer vent caught fire. The residents were able to escape without injury. The fire department responded and put out the fire. There was severe smoke and water damage to the house. Their possessions were damaged by the smoke and water.

Monica Garza, graduate of the class of 2003 from San Saba High School was recently notified that she is the recipient of a Foundation Excellence Award (FEA) from Texas A & M University - College Station. Monica will receive the $8000 Scholarship payable $2000 per year for four years beginning the 2003-2004 academic year.

Congratulations go to Tommie and Jane Tinney on the birth of two new grandchildren. The twin boys, Brady weighing in at three pounds and thirteen ounces and Nicolas weighing in at four pounds and fifteen ounces are reported to be doing just fine. The proud parents are Donnie and Mindy Freeland of Granbury.

It was a 'BLAST FROM THE PAST' as Eventide Nursing Home residents turned back time this past week at their 50's Flashback Party. The place was decked out in 50's decor and the employees got into the spirit by putting on their poodle skirts and bobby socks.

A burglary occurred at the 6-Pak convenience store located on Hwy 16 North. Someone shattered the door and stole beer from one of the displays. A driver in a truck park across the street heard the breaking of glass and reported the break in. The door had just been replaced three weeks prior to the break in.
