99 Years Ago May 39, 1924

Oscar Brown, who is connected with the staff of the U.S. Consul to Sweden was here last week, a guest in the home of his aunt, Mrs. Alf Ashley. He will soon depart for Germany and Sweden. He is the son of Mrs. Anna Brown, formerly of this county and now a resident of Llano.

A deal was made this week, where by Mr. and Mrs. Steve Ballew became the owners of the Tinsley home. Mr. and Mrs. Tinsley contemplate removing to Brownwood.

Postmaster J. E. Carson returned this week from Seguin, where he visited his sister, Mrs. W. A. Dickerson. His father Mrs. F. M. Carson accompanied him home for a visit.

Mrs. W. V. Dean, who has been in a Temple sanitarium for several weeks has returned home. Her many friends will be glad to hear of her speedy recovery.

Miss Ava Bolton returned from Milton, Florida, where she has been teaching the past year. Miss Bolton is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Bolton of this place.

Mrs. S. A. Peisker and son, Arthur Peisker left for Glendale, California, where they will spend the summer in the home of her son, Ed Peisker and family.

County Agent, Brison has received for the farmers of San Saba county, 2500 pounds of white arsenic to be used to combat the grasshoppers in this section. The poison was ordered as a result of the activities of R. R. Reppert, of the Extension Service of Entomologists of A. & M. College.

Work is started on moving the local AAA offices from the third story of the courthouse to the second story of the San Saba National Bank building here. A complete renovation has been made on the bank building, which is located across the street from the post office.

Miss Nance Clark, who has been attending business college in Austin, will work in her grandfather, Judge G. A. Walters, office this summer.

Herbert Clark, Jr. has gone into business of his own, operating a shoe shine establishment in the front of Shook's Men's Store. He sells Grit between shines, and both branches of his business are doing well.

A new coat of paint and a new roof is being placed on the Catholic church. The Wm. Cameron & Co. is furnishing the material and Will Franklin has the contract.

Charles Foster, who suffered a broken collar bone is a fall, has been recuperating in the home of his sister, Mrs. F. Raymond Gray and District Judge Gray here. He was a student in the Cherokee high school the past year, and suffered his injury at the home of O. L. Gray in Cherokee.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Behrens have as guests their children, Mrs. A. J. Goolsby and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Walma and Ray Henry Zepeda, all of San Antonio. The latter will spend the summer here with his grandparents.

Reports on extensive feldspar deposits in Central Texas were announced by Dr. E. H. Sellards, director of the University of Texas Bureau of Economic Geology. The deposits center about Ringer Hill near Bluffton and extend into nine counties. the material was described as suitable for glass and pottery. Counties in which the deposits have been mapped are Blanco, Burnet, Kimble, Lampasas, Mc-Colloch, Mason, San Saba and Gillespie.
