110 Years Ago May 1, 1913

Several of the teachers and pupils attended the closing exercises of the Simpson and Live Oak schools last Friday night.

The primary and grammar school departments are preparing to give an entertainment and proceeds will be used for school purposes.

Mrs. Williams, a teacher of Mason county, who expects to attend the Summer Normal here visited the school.

Mr. and Mrs. N. N. Lacy of Millersview stopped off here on their way to Marble Falls to attend the closing exercises of the High School at that place.

Pliney Taylor, Jack Evans and Kirk, nuf sed, made a trip to Richland Springs on their motors. There is evidently magnets at Richland which drew these young gallants there.

Walter Whitley has returned from Brady where he has been assisting in installing a local station for the Martin Telephone Co. This company has recently finished their line from this place into Brady.

Dr. Ira O. Stone and wife of Locker visited Mr. and Mrs. Dave Chadwick this week.

Mrs. A. J. Wise and son Oscar, of Richland Springs, were visitors to our city this week.

Jim Dofflemyer spent a few days here this week. He is temporarily residing in Llano.

Miss Irene Taylor of Richland Springs was the guest at the home of Mrs. Ed Dickerson this week.

Miss Ina Davenport of Richland Springs was guest of her sister Miss Ethel Davenport this week.

Harry Arhelger and bride, (nee Willig) arrived home. They are domiciled in their cozy little home in the south part of town. They have a host of friends whose earnest wish is that their married life may be fraught with much happiness and success.

60 Years Ago May 2, 1963

Mrs. Boyd McDonald of Brownwood and her aunt, Mrs. L. C. Smith, of Garland visited in the Bowser community with Mr. and Mrs. Claud Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Christmas and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wilson. Mrs. Smith was formerly Nettie Rice.

Cub Scouts of Pack 11, their leaders and parents, went to Longhorn State Park for a tour of the Longhorn Cavern and a picnic supper.

Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Martinez are the parents of a son, Ralph Ray, 8 pounds, born April 27 in the San Saba Memorial Hospital.

Second Lieutenant Emmett L. Grumbles, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Grumbles, has been awarded the silver wings of a United States Air Force navigator training at James Connally AFB. Lt. Grumbles received radar and celestial navigation training in Air Force T-29 'Flying Classroom' aircraft.

Billy Sanders, local VA teacher, accompanied 33 San Saba FFA boys on a field trip to San Antonio. In San Antonio, they visited the Union Stock Yards, the packing plants, Breckenridge Park and other points of interest in the city, according to Sanders.

The honor graduates of the 1963 senior class of San Saba High School were announced by Principal Joe Burchard. Winning the top honors are Jo Carmouche, valedictorian, and Olena Taylor, salutatorian.
